Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

It's the middle-grade team-up of the century as the heroes of New York Times bestselling author Ben Hatke join forces to save the world in Mighty Jack and Zita the Spacegirl.

Jack and Lilly are no strangers to heroics. They've befriended dragons, battled giants, and even earned the loyalty of a goblin army. So when they meet Zita the Spacegirl, fresh from her interplanetary travels and seeking their help to face a new threat, they're more than ready for another adventure.

But the danger growing just outside the door to their world is greater than anything the new friends could have imagined. An army of giants and screeds stands ready to lay siege to Earth, determined to put the age of humans to an end.

With the gate between worlds growing weaker and time running out, can the heroes come together to save their world from their greatest enemy yet?

   Can't get enough
What is the only complaint that my children had about this book? They love all the Zita and Jack books - were on a waiting list for this one at the library, but knowing that they read it a number of times, I bought it just for them.

   Great story
My daughters thought that the book was amazing. They are supporters of Jack, but not so familiar with Zita. This did not affect their delight in the story.

   Great series
Together with Zita, great series. Bedtime reading is fun, I like doing all the voices for my daughter.

   The perfect ending
Three Jack and two Zita books precede it. I don 't know if any more are coming, but I doubt it. This reads to both series like the perfect ending. I love art, characters, the sprawling story. My best guess is that other people who take the time to read these series will also love this book.

   A Masterpiece
This is a masterpiece by a genius of a storyteller and a gifted artist. Somehow, Ben Hatke succeeded in crafting a story that ties together robots, giants, goblins, humans, and dragons alike across many worlds and everything in-between. In some ways, my daughter and I read this as a love letter to Zita and Jack's fans, to the world of Ben Hatke and even to the grand adventure of life itself. At the bottom, this is an adventure story with heroes and villains, trials and tribulations and joys and aches. But it is also an examination of what it is like to live a life of virtue and how we should live, as well as a clarion call for solidarity. I hope I am wrong, but I also sense that this work is a farewell to Zita and Jack.

Pretty Much Perfect, With Extra Goblins!
A harder write for our favorite author, I suspect, but it all worked out nicely and beautifully. Zita and Lily had their issues, which were expected but well-resolved, and it was an incredible amount of fun on the way. This is story-telling at its very best, and I tear at the end always. And the Goblins, the Goblins always.

Best Book Ever! according to my 8-year-old
I devoured the book months ago after both my children pre-ordered the Zita and Spacegirl series while on vacation last summer. They enjoyed the Mighty Jack series as well and were excited to see that a new book would combine them. They were both super-excited when it arrived and had already read at least five times. One of them even takes it to school to pass it to his friends, who are also enjoying it. There you have it, so. The 8-year-old says, Best book ever! '' And the 10-year-old says, it's Ben Hatke's best book!
