Set in an alternate matriarchal 1900's Asia, in a richly imagined world of art deco-inflected steam punk, MONSTRES tells the story of a teenage girl who is struggling to survive the trauma of war, and who shares a mysterious psychic link with a monster of tremendous power, a connection that will transform them both and make them the target of both human and otherworldly powers.

This hit all the dark cords in me and I loved it!
It's easier to hurt us because we' re called monsters. People and monsters are the same. The dark part of me was singing to this graphic novel. The song is about monsters and Gods. This was dark and violent, but with a lot of intrigue and cute cats. I haven't gotten into how much I like the art work in this, but this hit all the right notes in the right places. I was completely immersed in this world and it was beautiful. I'm ready to start volume 2. I liked this. Tw murder, blood, and gore.

   Technically good kinda gross.
It's not as gross as it could be, but it is more gross than I anticipated. There is a lot to like about it. It's a good story, good characters and a good drawing. The premise is new and I liked it. I'm getting a little tired of being relentlessly negative as a genre and fit into that trend. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the rest of it or go back and read it again.

Super awesome everyone should totally read
Excellent story. We had a great discussion after we read this in my club. It's an advanced reading level graphic novel, but you need to pay attention to the story and the details. The main character is sexy and mysterious but it's hard to understand her motives and you might think she's a dick. The emotional storyline development is lacking. You' re too busy figuring out the crazy amazing world that you' ve been thrust into to notice it. PS. It's very pretty. It might give some new thought to ' Furrys'.

Wow I wish there was more!
I was not sure if I would like this one. I'm glad I didn't brush this one aside, because the cover art alone made me investigate if it's any good. Although I like the story, it took me a while to be able to keep track of the names, people, and places, but the art in this series is top notch. Since the art is really good, I find myself spending as much time reading as I do looking at the pictures.
