Gorgeously Illustrated but needlessly Dark and boring flat characters
While I believe that good imagery can be very effective when used to tell a story, this book is gratuitously disturbing, which does nothing to actually tell a violent and disturbing story. Baby murdering, child eating, child torture, etc. Way too far! The hero is really not much of a hero herself and is in some ways just evil and has virtually no personality. The characters, though gorgeously drawn, are ultimately flat and boring and there is nothing about them that makes you want to root for them. SUPER OVERrated and badly written ''.

   Amazing collection
I have completed volume #1 of the graphic novel collection, and now I am hooked! This one starts at chapterissues #7 and picks up amazingly!

   Amazing fantasy
It may not appeal to everyone, but it is hard to appreciate the creative genius behind the story. Plus, the art is gorgeous.

After 2 volumes I still don't know what's going on
I'm one of the very few who is not madly in love with this series, but it is dull in both the art style and the story. The main character is gruff and I find myself not caring what happens to her because everything takes too damn long and her mommy issues are very fast.

   Monstressly good
After reading an article that it was up for an award, Stumbled upon this series. I picked up volume 1 quickly, followed by volumes 2 and 3. The only bad thing is that I am now caught and have to wait for more... (

   Great Volume
I love this series and the more I read, the more I enjoy it. I love writing and art is beautiful and I can not wait to get Volume Three. Of course, if gore or explicit language or violence aren 't your cup of tea, then this isn 't the series for you.

   Even better than Vol 1
This TPB was longer than I expected and filled with quite a bit of content. I really enjoyed the series so far, and look forward to the release of the next volume.

amazed by the beautiful artwork in this series
Beautiful artwork again makes me amazed in this series. Sana Takeda does a wonderful job of bringing the world to life, it is just so detailed and beautiful. It took me a chapter or two to recover into the story, but once it started moving, I was sucked in. We get some interesting backstory from Maika's childhood with her mother, some questions are answered and a number of new questions are raised. This ending was Whew, that ending.

Even better than the first volume!
I bought the first volume last year and loved it. Historian waited until this came out and bought it right away. I've felt this during the first volume, but this second has confirmed it in my mind as my absolute favorite graphic novel. The characters have their own views, backgrounds, beliefs and motivations. There is a very well done magical enchantment to the world. Between the violence and plot building there are bits of humor. It's all around super great. I look forward to the 3rd volume.

Not as good as they first
Not as good as they are first. Most of the book took place in the same general area, not enough travel.
