Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. With these seven words, Michael Pollan--brother of Lori, Dana, and Tracy Pollan, and son of Corky--started a national conversation about how to eat for optimal health. A decade later, the value of a plant-based diet is widely accepted--and yet for many people, easier said than done.
So what does choosing mostly plants look like in real life? In families where not everyone is on the same vegetarian page the word mostly is key. The point isn't necessarily to give up meat entirely but to build a diet that shifts the ratio of animal to plants to create delicious--and nutritious--meals sure to appeal to everyone.
There has never been a better time to cook with vegetables--and to move plants to the center of the American plate. Even if plants weren't the better choice for your health, they make the case for themselves purely on the basis of deliciousness.
This approach to eating--also known as a flexitarian diet--strikes the best balance on our plates between flavor and pleasure, and nutrition and sustainability. In Mostly Plants, readers will find inventive and unexpected ways to focus on cooking with vegetables--dishes such as Crispy Kale and Potato Hash with Fried Eggs; Tandoori Chicken and Vegetable Sheet Pan Supper; Salmon Farro Bowl; and Roasted Tomato Soup with Gruyere Chickpea Croutons. Bought new, came used.

The book came with some sticky residue on the cover and back cover. The corners of the covers were bent, and there were some book bookmarks made of yellow paper in two of the sides. The front cover also does not rest flat on the pages, as does a new book. It is used as if it has been bowed many times.

Beautiful Recipe Book, but not Vegetarian Focused
Derived From Web , Oct 8, 2019
The recipes we have made have been very delicious, but I was surprised at how few strictly vegetarian recipes there were in the kitchen.

Not so healthy!

Too much white flour, canola oil, agave and sugar in recipes are too sweet. Main stream, definitely not for those following anti-inflammatory lifestyles, sugar free, and gluten free.

Corky Pollan taught me to love cooking in the 1970s.
Derived From Web , May 8, 2019
It is a great cookbook! Corky, Lori, Tracy, and Dana don t cut any corners. It is all designed intelligently, beautifully conceived and tested. All this adds up to a cookbook that will quickly become one of your favorites for special occasions and everyday. Corky Pollan was a stay-at-home mom with 4 children under 15 and a hard-working NYC executive husband years ago. No matter the circumstances, she never failed to serve with panache and love every single meal. Coming from a household where I woke up in the morning to the sound of my mother scraping burnt toast, eating at the Pollan family table was like discovering that Heaven was a real place on Earth. She is probably the best home cook who ever lived and her children are living proof of it.

Pleasantly surprised
Derived From Web , Apr 24, 2019
I received it just so excited and am so happy! Honestly, everything looks amazing and I can 't wait to try so many of these recipes. I'm happy that someone made a book for people who are mostly plant eaters for the most part. I didn 't know that there was a name for it! “ Flexitarian †is the motto of Thespian. A few times a week, I also throw in meat, but usually stay away from it and dairy products. That is the beauty of this book : you can easily adapt each recipe to suit your way. They also offer substitutions. Tracy : Thank you Tracy!

Great concept, well executed
Derived From Web , Apr 23, 2019
I find the basic flexitarian concept of this cookbook really winning. It ideally mimics how I'd like to eat. I find the recipes extremely easy to cook and more importantly, these are actually things I am excited to follow! The Pollans wiped him out of the park.

Gorgeous!
Derived From Web , Apr 19, 2019
I judge a cookbook by how inspiring it is to cook and to get up! This cookbook is the most beautiful and interesting cookbook I have seen in a long time, and I have a lot of cookbooks. I want to try all the recipes just by looking at the beautiful photography and reading through the recipes. I can already tell that this is going to be a favorite among the favorites.

Poor printing binding
Derived From Web , Apr 18, 2019
I really liked the recipes listed, how the authors'list of groceries was needed. I was very disappointed and numerous pages where Harper binds the recipe book too tightly and you could not read the recipes without really pressing very hard in the cookbook. There are numerous pages that had 1 and 34 white space on the left ap margin and the text printing was so close to the binding of the book that you could hardly read. If they sell this cookbook and a soft copy, they might work better. I notified the Collan family directly on their website and also via Harper press printers. Sadly, I have to return cookbook, as I'd have to have another person responsible for the cookbook to be able to read the recipes.
