Book Overview

Must See Mississippi: 50 Favorite Places is a fifty-site tour through the Magnolia State's historic locales, ranging from the graceful swinging bridge at Tishomingo State Park to the Biloxi Lighthouse, a miraculous survivor of Hurricane Katrina. Each locale contributes a unique piece of the state's rich and multilayered story, told through Mary Carol Miller's text and more than one hundred full-color photographs by Mary Rose Carter.

The book traces the region's history across several centuries, from the sunken paths of the Natchez Trace, winding through ominously quiet corners of Claiborne County, to the Greek Revival mansions and courthouses of the antebellum era. Author and photographer explore the remains of the long-lost Natchez tribe's Grand Village, as well as Gothic churches, imposing college chapels, and cabins of the Neshoba County Fair. Natural treasures also abound with trips to Point Leflore, the gardens of Monmouth and Walter Place, and the towering oaks of Greenwood's Grand Boulevard.

Selected by the author and photographer after more than a decade of roaming the highways and back roads of Mississippi, these fifty sites represent the best of a fascinating state.

Mary Carol Miller and Mary Rose Carter from Greenwood, Mississippi, are coauthors of Great Houses of Mississippi and Written in the Bricks. Greg Iles of Natchez, Mississippi, is the author of several novels, including True Evil, Turning Angel, and Blood Memory.

   Very good book for sight'seers.
It's a must for anyone visiting Mississippi. It has a lot of interesting places in Mississippi.
   I Love This Book!
The book is beautiful. I enjoy it! There are beautiful photos and historical descriptions of the places.
   A "must have" book
Miller and Carter have once again combined words and pictures. A valuable addition to the library of anyone interested in Southern or architectural history, this is a classic work that surpasses interest in only one state. I don't live in Mississippi, but this book will be on my gift list for friends across the country.
Nice book, but missing KEY information
Beautiful pictures of 50 places throughout Mississippi are in the book. The book doesn't include a map showing where these places are, so you have to look up another way to find them. Unless you are familiar with the state of Mississippi, it's very time- Consuming. It would have been better if they had numbered the 50 places and included a map of the state with the corresponding numbers on it. It would have been better if they had included a map at the beginning of the book and a map at the beginning of the section. It would have made it easier to plan a trip. I am sorry that I purchased the book, it has some really interesting information and beautiful pictures.
An Outstanding Book About Mississippi Places
This book was very enjoyable. I am from Mississippi and know a lot of the places in the book, but I didn't know some of the places that are on my list. The pictures are beautiful and the text is informative. The authors gave a disproportionate amount of ink, but they are from there. I' ll forgive you. This book has five stars all the way through.
