Inappropriate- hard to read aloud as a parent

My husband was unable to read this book to our son because of the name calling. The story about the fish is entertaining but the older brother is a mean bully and the book is unreadable. I am only out $10 on the set, but I am very disappointed with the books.

Listen to the other reviews about the name calling! Returned the book the day I got it.

I returned the book the day I got it. I don't know how the book series has so many good reviews. I bought this for my 6 year old who is just starting to read chapter books and I wanted something similar. This book was not it. The main character in the film has a conversation with his older brother in which he says moron and idiot. I thought it would be better than the other reviews, but I skimmed the first few pages and realized I was wrong. My 6 year old is an older brother and this is not the vibe I want to give my son. When the main character tells his parents that his brother is tormenting him, they brush it off and blame it on hormones. No thanks. The Magic Treehouse series was the one I chose.

Disappointed

I have a hard time keeping enough books in the house for my child and this was an amazing deal I purchased without reading any reviews or researching. I was not happy with the series and the use of the word moron for this age group.

Not appropriate for 7yo.

I read the first 3 chapters to my grandson. I had to stop. I didn't like the message it was sending. The younger brother was being called a moron relentlessly by his big brother. He is a mean big brother. The big brother tried to kill the goldfish. The older brother is trying to kill the fish byflushing it in the morning. The brother tried to save the fish. Is it really? The author couldn't come up with a more sensitive plot line for a kid's book. My grandson has pets. He was very worried for the fish. I regret buying it. The books will be thrown away.

Not for Younger Kids

My 2nd graders set has a paragraph calling someone a moron, stupid, idiot, and the list goes on. I was really disappointed because I thought the storyline was really good.

My 6 year old loves these books!
Derived From Web , Mar 25, 2019
My 6 year old son loves reading and flies through books as fast as we can buy them. I started looking for a new series for him after he finished the last one. The reviews convinced me to buy them. He spent most of his time reading the first book. We consider it a victory when he reads instead of playing on electronics.

Kids Really Enjoy Them
Derived From Web , Feb 11, 2019
After we finished another kids series, I took a chance on these books. My kids love these books. I read these to them at night and sometimes they read ahead in the day. The books introduce new words at a good pace and the storyline is easy to follow.
