What color is your mood?

On a really good day, Jamie feels purple like the first bite of a juicy cold plum.

And with a crayon in his hand, Jamie eases into a green feeling--like a dragon dancing through a jungle made of green jello.

But when his brothers push him around and make fun of his drawings, Jamie feels like a dark gray storm brewing.

What will it take to put Jamie back in a bright-feeling mood?

Through Jamie, young readers will learn to describe how they're feeling in a unique way.

My Cold Plum Lemon Pie Bluesy Mood is a 2014 Charlotte Zolotow Honor Book.

I bought this book for my son and we love it! The text is so vibrant
I am hoping Amazon will work harder and more often to feature MORE black children's book authors.
   TFB is incredible!!
This author is absolutely purple... excellent! Now buy this book! I have recommended it as well as her first publication Around Our Way.
   Poetry with a beat!
I love this book absolutely! But then add a kind of freestyle rhyme to his thoughts as he shares his current mood and I was enthralled and reading with a big grin. I can 't wait to work with both my boys on a moody writing project. This is the kind of book that surpasses entertainment into inspiration. I want to go old school, break the computer and leave the notebook paper and yellow number two's. I almost forgot to mention the illustrations... fun and matched the story perfectly!
I love using this book to introduce discussion about feelings with ...
I love using this book to introduce a discussion about feelings with my students. It also provides a natural early introduction to the metaphor. Though not all of the feelings in the book are compared to Foods, my students are always motivated to create their own food comparisons by thinking about their favorites or least favorites, and a feeling that might relate.
It was more like a poetry book that didn't rhyme
This book was borrowed from the library. It was more like a poetry book that did not rhyme. We didn 't care for it. We aren 't the artsy type perhaps.
Fun read-loud with a strong message
Kids relate to this engaging story, in which a child's day-night moods are vividly described in terms of colors. This fun read-aloud boasts strong imagery, rhythm and rhyme and the positive message that there is a place for all you might feel.
A Great Way to Introduce Emotional Intelligence
Fun, colorful and sweet reflection of us and all the emotions we can tap into. A great way to introduce emotional intelligence to cultivate and promote.
   Fun feelings book!
Great Emotional Identification Book for Little Emotional! I love asking prek-1st grade students to “guess” what mood he is in from the colors she describes and have them discuss. A great follow-up activity is to ask children to draw a color and to pick a picture of one of their moods. Love also that it shows a family of color, which is unfortunately not always easy to find.
   Feelings... nothing more than feelings...
It follows the day of a typical boy and the different things that happen in a little day. The book is written in prose poetry and the language is very supportive of all feelings as long as nobody is hurt. It is okay to enjoy time with yourself as well as to be with others. Sometimes, your family members are kind of jerky to you, especially siblings, but they still love you. Message - Feelings are natural and normal.
