From a 46 year old adult with ADHD wishing this book was around when I knew I wasn't like others
Derived From Web , Jun 9, 2021
My great nephew was recently diagnosed with ADHD... My niece has been having a very hard time ensuring that his impulsive and hyper outbursts are never making him feel like something is wrong with him. I so wish these kind of books were around when I started realizing that my brain worked differently than others...I am now 46 years old and not diagnosed with. ADHD until my 20s...I am not one to push a book for ADHD... FINALLY A PROPER WELL WRITTEN AND ILLUSTRATED BOOK FOR CHILDREN THAT DON'T WANT TO BE DIFFERENT, BUT CONSTANTLY REMINDED BY SO MANY HOW DIFFERENT THEY ARE FOR ADHD!

Excellent, relevant, and real

My 8 year old son has ADHD and I love this book. It is great for my son because he identified with character throughout and together we've talked about how you can make mistakes and still be wonderful. It is great for me as a parent because it helps me to understand his experience in the world and reminded me to make it a point to notice the positives every day about my son.

Did not resonate with my son
Derived From Web , Jul 9, 2020
The intention was good, but the book did not resonate with my son. He looked almost offended asking why do you buy this for me? I think the challenge is that the book lists just bad things for the whole story. Only at the end do you hear a few good things, but because they are confined to the end and not illustrated, they don 't shift enough attention away from all the negative. It bugs the child that this is what you think about them ( i.e.

Most kids are good kids ; we just need to have the outside to help them find their best way of finding their best way, not ours. Today we received this book. It was read before the nap time. My eldest is enamored with this book. My kid has never been diagnosed by his dr or therapist and shows a lot of problems ihad as a kid. It is not just for those kids and parents, but also for those really frustrated parents with kids who are super smart but high-anxiety. Their brains and behaviors also show many parallels. If your kid is a great kid, but has a hard time hearing, this is a good book. Whatever you are through, you are not alone ''.

Wonderful message and validation for pre-k and up

I am a child therapist and have quite a few children like Charlie! The language is great for preschoolers and could probably be expanded for older children, and the ending is a perfect reminder for teachers and caregivers of the impact of noticing wonderful behaviors. I can see children really relating to Charlie and parents trying to create wonderful lists of their own.

Fills a much needed hole in the ADHD PB market!
Derived From Web , May 6, 2019
Nothing about this story felt clinical or like it was trying to mask my daughter to teach her symptoms. A lot of picture books about ADHD seem to me like thinly fictionalized self-help books for children. This is one that features a kid with ADHD himself, which is wonderful to see in children. The story problem '' in this book is not Charlie's ADHD, the story problem is Charlie's internalized shame, and it is so wonderfully resolved when it turns out that his mom noticed and appreciated all the times he was well regulated, and all his incremental successes that day. This is an inspiring model of positive parenting as it relates to ADHD and also a truly enjoyable read!

A wonderful book providing invaluable insight and guidance to support children with AD/HD.
Derived From Web , Mar 20, 2019
A wonderful book, providing invaluable insight and direction to support children with ADHD. We all need to be reminded of how best to support these children and practicing compassion, praise and encouragement is what they need the most to succeed. Children lighten with both a giggle and relief while they relate to Charlie's worries and then discover how truly special and wonderful he is! This book is an informative warm hug ''. A must read for parents and those working with children with ADHD and also for young readers who will find comfort in Charlie's story.
