Florida field biology course helper
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
I purchased this book as a requirement for a Florida Field Biology course and lab that I needed. The book is filled with facts about the indigenous and non-native species in the many diverse Florida environmental habitats that make our state so unique. The book is compact enough to carry in a back pocket and can bear the rigors of hiking and exploration with its semi-hard cover and binding. Though my instructor, a PhD in naval biology, states that the book is rather limited in the species it identifies, it is the best reference available that is not either physical or much too impractical for field use. I rate it 5 stars for its ability to give me fast answers on the site of identification of most flora and fauna species I am charged with observing in the wild. It also has some great information about the many state reserves and parks throughout the state of Florida. A must having for anyone who is charmed by the wonders of our Florida environs, native and exotic species.

Priceless tool! A great gift!

I ordered my 2nd copy of this book just now! We moved to Florida one year ago and are constantly looking for different animals, plants and birds, unlike some other books, and it is very easy to identify different plants and animals using this book, especially when things are often labeled wrong online!

Good, but not complete
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
I wanted to use this as a pocket guide to my local area, but a lot of flora and fauna that I have seen do not make it into the book. There were a variety of ducks and spiders that did not make an appearance on the pages that left me longing for something more. However, what is described in the field guide is well pictured and pictured.

Good basic overview
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
A natural overview of the good basic life of FL. Most of what you see on a general glance will be found in this book. Having grown up in FL and most of it in the country, I know that there is much more to be found here, working with scientists of a stripe or another. If you are looking for a general field guide, however, that is easy to use on the trail, you could do much worse than this book.

Compact but inclusive
Derived From Web , Feb 28, 2022
This field guide was helpful in that it included plants and animals of interest in South Florida, including butterflies and moths. However, it was disappointing that some photos of trees and shrubs were taken from a distance to show the shape, but did not always show leaf closeups. Flower photos were good, so that if the flowering plant was confident in the id, you could be confident in the flower. Invertebrate photos are often dark. There was a helpful section on parks and stores in the back with addresses and phone numbers.

Handy Guide!
Derived From Web , May 21, 2020
For its size it packs a lot of good info and pictures. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who is hunting for a salmon if I can be found in Florida. My only critique is that I did not see a reference to the Machineel tree, which is extremely dangerous for people. Though it isn't as common in South Florida as the rest of the Caribbean Sea, it is still there. If the editors are reading this, they can give this tree at least a half page... otherwise, it is a GREAT Florida FloraFauna reference.

A must buy for Florida residents or a Florida study!!
Derived From Web , Feb 15, 2020
We are a homeschooling family and I bought this book for my 8 year old son who is a nature lover and is outside all day. I find myself reading it every week, looking for certain types of birds, plants or animals we have encountered while walking on the trails. If you need a book to learn about Florida wildlife, this is it, my friends.
