Just what this beginner was looking for

Like a lot of outdoors people, I often find myself picking up or photographing interesting rocks and geological formations when I'm hiking or foraging. What I really like about this book is that it doesn't assume any existing knowledge on the part of the reader. Well over half the book consists of really excellent color plates that are particularly helpful to a beginner who doesn't know the ins and outs of geology. It's, and it's crystalline or it's black and igneous about as much as you have to find your way in this book. Strong recommendation.

Wonderful

I looked through them times and again. Because of the fond memories and that we have a collection of them, I bought this for my husband's birthday. He's a huge rock and minerals fan, and he's also a good looking guy. I catch him looking through it, and he really enjoys it, Tunick said. I am really happy with the purchase, said Jennette. Great price, great pictures, and lots of information, he said. It's just that these Audubon books always feel so made well. The cover, the pages, the pictures, everything is great, Mr. O'Neill said.

Perfect

It's exactly what I wanted in a rock book. I'll find a rock that looks interesting and pick it up, but I can never figure out what it is because I know nothing about the subject. It's great because I can start with as well, it's pink.

A great book. As I live near Rockhound State Park in Deming, N.M. I will be putting this book to good use later this year when we take our grandchildren hunting treasures.

This book was recommended to us by a friend and we absolutely LOVE it! She especially likes the pictures that are organized by the colors of the rocks. This book will help her identify the rocks she finds.

Great help!

Very thorough information. It was more than I needed, Mr. Dhaliwal said. Lapid's book is a good reference for identifying stones and rocks. Pictures are nicely done, he said.

Definitely for more knowledgeable enthusiasts

If you know what you are looking for, or have more than beginners knowledge about the subject, you will really like this book. If you are interested in learning more about minerals, try this book first. Dark and almost black photos added to the realism. But I would hesitate to say this is their best guide.

Great Reference!
Derived From Web , Aug 1, 2019
This book is a great reference for those times when you find yourself in a natural history museum and they haven't labeled their show quality exhibits of minerals and gems, if you are trying to figure out what the pretty pebble you found on a glacial plain is.

Content extraordinary.

I bought this book as a present, so I don't know how they will react to it. But he should take comfort in knowing there are many color pictures of each, with detailed information about each. What tools are needed for rock collecting? Catalogs are organized by category, so they can be displayed on any screen. The book itself is slightly disappointing, even if the story is told in a witty, irreverent way. Only because I gave it 4 because it was the only reason I gave it. The book is stiff and the pages are hard to pull apart. There should be more blank space between the binding and the printer, he said. It won't open flat now, but might after further use, he said.
