Book Overview

- Waterproof - Tear-Resistant - Travel Map

Alaska is a land so vast that is boggles the imagination. It is so large that it could easily contain the next three largest states: Texas, California, and Montana and still have room left over. Despite its large size Alaska has very few inhabitants making it the state with the lowest population density. Alaska is known for its dramatic, diverse terrain of wide-open spaces, mountains and forests, with abundant wildlife and many small towns.

A majority of Alaska, sixty percent, is owned and managed by the Federal Government. These lands are open to the public and offer a wide range of activities from sightseeing in Denali National Park to river-running and fishing on one of many wild rivers. Many vistors to Alaska choose to arrive via cruise ship through the famous Inside Passage. The Alaska Adventure Map shows all of these features and more from the temperate rain forest in the Pan Handle to the arctic tundra of the North Slope. This is a state of diverse and wide open spaces that are still truly wild.

Alaska's most famous hotspots, like Denali, Anchorage, the Inside Passage, Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, and many others are clearly marked on the map. The boundaries of National Parks, National Forests, Natural Reserves and Wildlife Refuges are all clearly marked. With such a wealth of content, Read More chevron_right

   Alaska Trip.
Great help in planning a visit to Alaska this summer. Al Lots has changed since I was there fifty years ago.

   Filled with unreadable information
Instead of showing detailed maps of individual areas, it shows a single to-scale map of all Alaska. So, Kenai Peninsula, Nome, etc. Are 3 x 3 sections of paper filled with possibly unreadable but completely interesting info. On top of this, they added many color borders around wide features, so the result is a mess.

Road Map, good for a quick reference
I bought this map in the hopes of framing it to add to my wall decor. The map, however, cuts the bottom part of Alaska. It is located on the other side of the map, which is ok, but doesn 't really work for what I was trying for. It is, however, a beautiful road map if that is all you need.

Extremely poor layout of the map, limiting usability, find a better option.
While we have a number of NG maps, this is terrible. The areas most commonly visited by 95% of people (Anchorage, Kenai Pennisula and Denali are located on the bottom edge of 1 side and top of the other side making using this map difficult for those areas, as you end up flipping and refolding the map for 2 inches on each side ). While Alaska includes extensive mileage, much of it is not easily traveled and anyone traveling to the more remote areas would require much more research than this map. Lastly, there are no huge boxes for these areas, instead detailed portions of the map are filled with pictures that do not help in navigating. It is in general extremely disappointing quality, which I expected better from a publisher like NG. This is a map that we leave at home during our travels,

Basically just a big map of alaska
Not really useful for planning trips, since it provides no detail on what to see and do in the various regions. Also the map details are so small that they don 't show much information. Instead, recommend guidebooks such as lonely planet with detailed regional maps and narration.

   Colorful and easy to read
If the gps signal did not reach into the Yukon for our upcoming trip, it would be perfect for our upcoming trip.
