National Geographic Simply Beautiful Photographs takes readers on a spectacular visual journey through some of the most stunning photographs to be found in National Geographic's famed Image Collection. Award-winning photographer Annie Griffiths culled the images to reflect the many variations on the universal theme of beauty. Chapters are organized around the aesthetic concepts that create beauty in a photograph: Light, Composition, Moment (Gesture and Emotion), Motion, Palette, and Wonder. Beyond the introduction and brief essays about each featured concept, the text is light. The photographs speak for themselves, enhanced by lyrical quotes from scholars and poets. In the chapter on Light, for example, we read these words of whimsical wisdom from songwriter Leonard Cohen: Ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That's how the lights get in. And then the images flow, of light entering scenes through windows, clouds, and spotlights, from above, alongside, and behind, casting radiance upon young ballerinas and weathered men, into groves of autumn trees and island-dotted seas, revealing everything it touches to be beautiful beyond expectation. To illuminate the theme of Wonder, Griffiths chose a wish from Andre Bazin: If I had influence with the Read More chevron_right

Great gift (or just for yourself!)
This for my grandparents for Christmas because it is getting hard for them to see to read. But this has beautiful text, and it is minimal without being able to read even one of it. My grandma was taken with some of the photos breathtaken. They're both nature and animal buffs, so that they were just flipping through it saying oh wow '' over and over. After they flipped my mom and I left and I just loved some of the beautiful photos. A few even brought tears to my eyes when I thought about beauty in the world and how much we are missing out on all. Enjoy!
   Simply Beautiful Photographs.
I am always in awe of beautiful photos of around the world. Annie Griffiths is a very talented lady to put together this book. I also find it inspiring to keep going out there and improving my photographic skills.
   Simply Amazing....
My Husband has a low vision and this amazing, beautiful book brings so much pleasure to him. The brilliantly colorful photos captured were inspiring and filled with wonder. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to enjoy in this world everything that is precious and beautiful. This wonderful book is a Must see '' for Muses.
   Totally recommend this book.
I purchased this book as a Christmas gift for a friend.
   Beautiful pictures!
Like the title, they are simply beautiful photographs. After flipping through a few pages, I feel relaxed, soothed, and content. I highly recommend '' this book.
Subpar vs DK Coffee Table Books
The national geographical table books series by photocoffee are just... Okay, now you must be on the list. Some of the photos are less-impressive, the book layouts leave a lot to be desired and the book formats are all over the place, this one being TINY compared to other Nat Geo books making it not-so-much a coffee table addition. As a longtime fan of Natalie Geo's series of history- and nature-specific coffee table books, these DK series aren 't just good.
I purchased this for my uncle who is in an assisted living facility. This book was perfect for him because it had so many beautiful pictures that told the story for him. The book loved him absolutely!
Don't buy the Kindle edition if you appreciate photographs
A friend borrowed me the physical hardcover book, which is of size 6.5 x 6.5 inches. I am a photographer myself and can appreciate the work of the legends that have contributed to NatGeo's more than a hundred years of history, so I went ahead and purchased the Kindle edition. The editor for the Kindle edition isn't suitable for publishing postcards, let alone a NatGeo book. It is almost as if they were trying to kill some trees, except that digital books don 't save any trees. 2-stars only because some of the images are really incredible, but you won 't notice if you are reading the Kindle edition.
Soft back version is an affordable and excellent value!
Beautiful photography . Can go over and over again and still discover and appreciate new aspects. Since it is the Soft Back version, however, it is much smaller than the Hard Back. Even more spectacular are the pictures.
   Stimulating Photos
I bought this for my neighbor, who was once an avid reader before the dementia robbed her of this ability. The photos are beautiful and she likes turning a book and holding pages. Her faithful husbandcaregivers can have something to talk to her about, and the book is not too heavy or big, about 6 x6 ''.
