Book Overview

This joyful rhyming book encourages children to value the different in all people, leading the way to a kinder world in which the differences in all of us are celebrated and embraced.

Macy is a girl who's a lot like you and me, but she's also quite different, which is a great thing to be. With kindness, grace, and bravery, Macy finds her place in the world, bringing beauty and laughter wherever she goes and leading others to find delight in the unique design of every person.

Children are naturally aware of the differences they encounter in everyday life and relationships. They just need to be given tools to understand and appreciate what makes us different, permission to ask questions about it, and eyes to see and celebrate it in themselves as well as in those around them.

A cute story about disability and diversity
This is the story of a girl named Macy, who has Down Syndrome, who tried to keep Macy out, she just wouldn 't give up, nor did she pout. She can do many fun things, but takes the world at her own pace and sometimes is left out. Macy teaches differences and embraces others too with determination and a bright spirit. The story is well-written as a poem, and the illustrations are beautiful Sameness is fine, but difference brings light ''. The story is well-written as a poem, and the illustrations are beautiful. The story does not specifically mention Macy's disability, but touches on some small differences that make Macy unique. The author is a well-known blogger, “with an emphasis on the down syndrome narrative ”.

great message but text doesn't flow
As a teacher of young children, I love the message that differences should be celebrated. This book generally got this message across. However, the text didn 't flow. The rhymes were stiff and stilted and often forced. For me, that took away the message of the book and made it weaker than it could have been. I will not purchase this book for my classroom.

   Amazon wants a title
Tristathebarista was so glad that Tristathebarista recommended this book! We really enjoyed this book! We have really enjoyed this book! In our home it quickly became a fan favorite. We like how she shows that not everyone is an exact copy of each other. Someone can be different, look different, and think in a different way and that is okay. Different brings light. The only criticizem I have is I wish she did not focus on making everything rhyme. I am getting another copy to put in our neighborhood little library, and I am getting another copy to put in our neighboring library. Heather Avis'other two books are incredible! You should definitely check those out as well! !

   Such a delightful book!
I was given this book and read it for the first time with the star of the book Macyn and her prominent sibling. What a blessing! This book captures the ways in which being different is really something wonderful. The book is bright, beautiful, and poetic. The illustrations are fun and playful. Both the author Heather and the illustrator Sarah not only captured Macy's essence, but also captured the essence of just about every “different ” learner, I am blessed to know and teach! Highly recommended! Highly recommended! !

   Cue the Tears!
I have a six month old and a three year old and from day one I said I would give anything to be able to protect them from the pain of others as they grow up. Besides protecting my children from being hurt, my prayer is that they won 't hurt others and this book is a beautiful guide to help them conceive their thinking about one another and celebrate each other's differences. I can 't say enough good about it!!!! I just can 't say enough good about it! !
