   Easy and amazing
I bought many theory books only to become confused and give up 2 or 3 chapters in. After reading this book, I FINALLY understand guitar theory and feel like I entered the inner sanctum of understanding music theory, something I thought was only available to the chosen few. I appreciate how the chapters broke into complex lessons with knowledge checks, what seemed like simple info.

Great Book to Learn Basic Guitar Theory
As a beginner, I have learned more about guitar and music in the first four chapters of this incredible book than I have seen any of the YouTube videos. So far I learned my way around the guitar fretboard, scales, tones and semitones. I learned quickly because the book is written for the novice and is very easy to understand. After I finish this book, I suspect that I will have a better understanding of guitar and music theory.

   Good for a beginner (only)
Was expecting more detailed info, perhaps covering the circle of the 5ths. Don 't worry now that it is used too much.

All the info you probably missed before
Despite being involved in music in different forms for most of my life, I had never been exposed to most of the information contained in this volume. Not only are the gaps in my understanding filled, but it helps connect the dots between the fragments of what I learned and what I didn 't... All of this is in easy-to-digest chunks that are logical, simplified and linear connecting and building on what you learn. I can 't recommend this more strongly.

   A brief history of guitar!
By far the best teacher of guitar theory, I have had the pleasure of reading! It is presented very clearly and in small chunks with small quizzes at the end of each chapter to test your learning. I plan on reaching Mr. Shipway and personally thank him for making all this circle of fifths, relative minor, chord families jargon easy to comprehend. I learned more from this book than in the 25 years I have been playing guitar! If you are new to guitar, guitar theory or have forgotten theory, this book is for you!

Best music theory book hands down
Have to say that this book is real easy to understand and there is online audio that you can listen to as you read, which really helped me a lot of reassurance when I answered something wrong. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will purchase more of his other guitar books in the near future. A++ - experience :

Gets right to the point without assuming that we know anything about music theory
I have tried several books on music theory for guitar, and this is the first that presents the basic concepts at a level that can be understood without formal musical training, and he does so with respect, not condescension. As he says, you will probably have to read each section several times and try the exercises on your guitar to really understand it, but I expect to have to work at it. It is a great book. I am now making progress, and I recommend it to anyone who is serious about music theory and the Guitatr.

love it, love it, love it.
I have been retired for several years now and I seem to have less time to follow my passions. This book gives me a way to do it just. When I can not concentrate on my guitar, I can get to the theory from my phone. I've always known the theory is necessary to enjoy the full advantage of music. To a fault, I questioned the theory. The practice of medicine is practice. This book gives me bits of theory when I can 't play. When I play, I feel confident. When questions come up, I no longer agonize. As the book says, don 't rush now, we 'll get back to it. We're all at different stages of our journey, which makes it difficult to publish to this audience. James, congratulations! You did great!

With Kindle book on screen I can practice while reading.
This book is very basic in the explanations and builds chapter by chapter. I bought the Kindle Edition because I can open the book and listen to the audio-download files. The audio image included is from Chapter 9 and I have the same folder open on the audio chapter. I can easily grab my guitar and do the exercises while looking at the screen and listening to the sound. I highly recommend this book to learn music theory from the beginning. Great foundation for a great society.

   Another Good Book!
I think I have all James'books. He explains things so that you can really understand. Actually, I like his teaching methods so much that I signed up for his online courses!
