Book Overview

Sh t happens. Every day.

Mae West was sent to jail for corrupting the morals of youth with her first Broadway play. When participation in the Hitler Youth became mandatory in Germany, groups of teen pirates rebelled. Muhammad Ali refused to drop bombs and bullets on brown people in Vietnam. A dog sled relay carried life-saving medicine 674 miles through -50 temperatures to rescue children dying from diphtheria. The Dionne Quintuplets were stolen by the Canadian government and displayed like zoo animals for profit. Indian princess Noor Inayat Khan was one of the most successful spies against the Nazis in World War I. A children's television show called Caillou tortured parents for more than a decade . . .

Sh t goes down every single day of the year, year after year. Sometimes it's a battle that changes the course of history, other times it's a life-saving medical advancement. Bravery is counter-balanced with cowardice. There is slavery and there is self-sacrifice. History is replete with deeds both noble and despicable. Some were motivated by greed, others generosity. Many dedicated themselves to the art of killing, while others focused their efforts on curing. There have been grave mistakes and moments of greatness. Confrontation and cooperation.

Early in the twentieth century Spanish philosopher George Santayana Read More chevron_right

It made a great valentine's day.
I bought the book as a valentine to my wife and I. We really enjoy reading history for the day together, he said.

Important pieces of history told with lots of swear words-love it!!!
The book is a well-written, well-illustrated, and short introduction to the Civil War. Added bonus: The singer swears the entire time. Buy the book and you can exchange it for a used car. If you are a die-hard Rams fan, you will not be disappointed.

   Hilarious
History aside, this is a very good book. Turner said: "Profanely expressed." Get it?

Good idea scuttled by poor writing
This was a very good idea for a book and the examples have been well chosen, he said. The problem, of course, is the adolescent writing style. The network got old less than two weeks into the new year. It's a terrible book, terrible advice, and I don't recommend it to anyone.

   Brilliant!
Beautifully expressive, interesting and witty, Hart's work is a delight to behold. I love that I can be educated while being entertained, he said. It's back to the drawing board, 1010 WINS said.

   Funny and Informative
I got to watch James Fell build this book over a year of This Day in History posts. James has a great deal to say about everything from religion to politics. I don't always agree with his interpretations, but that's okay. Whether you're a fiction writer or an illustrator, Roy is always entertaining to read. Since the original piece was posted on Facebook, James had to come up with creative ways to communicate his views while not triggering the censors into slapping him with a ban and sending him to jail. However, he had to come with original words such as "alabastards" to dodge the censors.

Daily dose of history and profanity.
The book changed my life. As soon as it hit my kindle, I grew a foot. It's just that my spot filled with bald. The birds suddenly swoop down from the trees and land at my feet. I've been able to commune with him plants and animals of the forest. He added that although he is "one with all nature," he feels "alone" because of the lack of a companion. PLANET HAMILTON, MOTHER F. This is by far the best off-color dive into history you'll read. Great, digestible, historical facts and stories that are great for sharing, Witt said. Also, a plethora of f bombs, and that means a lot to me.

   A damned fine book
Imagine, one said, what a world without masters of history would be like. James is, sometimes plain awful, always funny as hell. It's absolutely the way to get your I just don't care about history teenager or grumpy uncle to get into learning about things that happened before they were born. Buy a copy of The Fifth Estate and enjoy the hardback edition of the book. It's just that good." They often complain about the "Nazis" punchers.
