Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

What if the sleeping beauty never woke up? Once Upon a Dream marks the second book in a new YA line that reimagines classic Disney stories in surprising new ways.
It should be simple--a dragon defeated, a slumbering princess in a castle, a prince poised to wake her. But when the prince falls asleep as his lips touch the fair maiden's, it is clear that this fairy tale is far from over.
With a desperate fairy's last curse controlling her mind, Princess Aurora must escape from a different castle of thorns and navigate a dangerously magical landscape--created from her very own dreams. Aurora isn't alone--a charming prince is eager to join her quest, and old friends offer their help. But as Maleficent's agents follow her every move, Aurora struggles to discover who her true allies are and, moreover, who she truly is. Time is running out. Will the sleeping beauty be able to wake herself up?

   It’s a good book
I ordered them both for my daughter. The original description of the product said it was "a hybrid of mechanical and electrical components." But these books came in like they were used, scratched up a bit. I did not appreciate that Ford was making that kind of a statement, Mr. Shelby said. The book is a great book, but I'm rating it 3 stars for the condition it arrived in.

Not your typical Disney story...a whole lot darker
I've seen the movies, and I love the series. This is only the second book I have read from the series, but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the darker alternate story line. It's a book that was definitely a dark one. I do not recommend for children, but I recommend that you read Young Adult books.

   Great gift
It was a Christmas present from my sister and she loved it. It came on time, Mr. Dhaliwal said. Only a gripe I had with the package was that it was too small. I am about the condition of my books, but that is my own ocd. The book came with the corners slightly bent but other than that it was a great present.

   Disappointing
I started reading As Old As Time by George Catlin and it was amazing. This one was a huge letdown, industry analysts said. There were some cool parts, but for the most part it was slow and not cohesive. The main character has SPOILER ALERT SORT OF dumbed down by the antagonist and while I get why, following a really stupid protagonist is really hard to do. It was a hard time for me to take care of her. Then later in the book it jumps between what is going on or where they are, which again, I get, because they are in a dream. It's a lot of work, but it's not terribly difficult to pull off. Get As Old As Time? Or the Aladdin one is pretty good.

   Not recommended
It was, I would say, a total disappointment, and I don't enjoy books at all. I enjoyed Part of Your World, but I did not get nearly as much satisfaction from Once Upon a Dream. The excitement that the former created for the Twisted Tale series was sadly destroyed by this book, its creators said in a statement. There were a few fairly common threads, but I struggled to find interest in most of what was going on. The entire book felt disjointed and very bland, unless you have read every Twisted Tale.

   Absolutely Delightful!
This book is absolutely delightful but if you thought Maleficent was scary before this version of her will remind you why she is often times thought of as one of the baddest of the Disney villains. Now he might be adrift in Aurora's dream land, but it's not clear whether or not he's even dreaming. He added that although the Beatles were never mentioned, "There is a certain mystique about the Beatles that is still very much alive." She stumbles upon something rather disturbing and realizes something is taking place. From there, the story really takes off.I'll leave it there so I don't spoil anything and if you want more, there are probably other reviews with more detail, Ms. Caramore said. If you like those or are a Disney fan, you should give it a try.

Sweet, fun adventure with deep themes and well developed chatacters.
I am a huge fan of the book and I will probably reread it. It's a beautiful reimagining of the story, Williams said. There are some great themes about female empowerment, self-discovery, empathy and what someone really means, Blair said. If you enjoyed Meleficent or Wicked, I think you will enjoy this book, too.

The writing is mediocre and an excessive amount of time is spent describing the same things over and over again. The book would have benefited from a strong editor, Hachette said. Not inspired by anything else.

   Slow paced
The customer service was not what i expected. I went in with high hopes and was pretty good at beginning, but then things went wrong. It was to slow it down, needed to bw fast.

   Hot Mess
The book is, in fact, ridiculously bad. It seemed okay at first, but as soon as the princess meets the prince, it becomes unbearable. If you're not an avid reader, you may enjoy this book, otherwise I would pick up something else. The language seems like it was meant for 3rd graders and the adjectives are ad-libbed in just to have an extra word.
