Book Overview

Blue is a quiet color. Red s a hothead who likes to pick on Blue. Yellow, Orange, Green, and Purple don t like what they see, but what can they do? When no one speaks up, things get out of hand until One comes along and shows all the colors how to stand up, stand together, and count. As budding young readers learn about numbers, counting, and primary and secondary colors, they also learn about accepting each other's differences and how it sometimes just takes one voice to make everyone count.

Awesome book to teach about the ramifications of bullying.
I'm the principal at an elementary school and a mom of a 3 and 5 year old. I recommend this book to anyone who reads it. It was a blast, my 5 year old loved it and it was great to be able to play with my 3 year old. The book is a great introduction to empathy, even for children of all ages. The book also teaches the role of the bystander in bullying and how everyone needs to stand up for what is right, McCrackin said. Kathryn Otoshi's book, "The Fifth Estate," was also highly recommended. Brand new videos are uploaded every day.

A wonderful book that grows with a child
For a while my kid enjoyed talking about the colors. Then he enjoyed counting the numbers and now he has a good interest in the story. It will become more meaningful to him as he grows. The message is clear: speak up for what is right in a clever and inventive way.

   Addresses being a victim well
It was a present from my mom when my 5 was at school and she was bullied, but then began to lash out. But she showed aggressive tendencies when I tried to get her to comply with my demands. This is a good book to teach a child how not to be a victim and how not to be a bully, Malvo said. It is a difficult task to teach Kindergardeners a middle ground as they tend to be extremists. The best compliment I got after reading her book was when she said You're my number one.

   Must have for K-2 teachers
Love this book, Gillian. This is a great way to teach younger kids about bullying and about not being a bystander, Coach said. I think it would be great if all teachers in grades K-2 had this book in their classrooms.

   Terrific Book
I am a teacher and borrowed this book for a colleague and had to buy my own copy. It's a very simple book, but gets the message across nicely. I like to have the kids watercolor a picture from the book and then they come up with the message. The kids love it and do a really nice job on the art work, he said. Also check out her other book Zero about the number 0! Also amazing is the way the trailer was designed.

   Cute book!
One of my favorites, as a nanny, to have this bough for a few clients. But I think it is great for too toddlers, they may not grasp the bigger picture but they love reading along and recognizing the colors and numbers!

   Perfect Teaching Tool
The book is well written and gets to the heart of the bully and the bully's victim, explains and evens his feelings.

I shared it with other teachers in my building.

   Great little book!
I was with my 5 year old grandson on Zoom with his kindergarten teacher and she read this book to him. It is a wonderful message about how to deal with a bully in a positive and inclusive way, Graham said. The book uses just four colours and four simple numbers to tell the story. Even if you don't identify them, everybody knows them. Helpful to young children in learning colors and numbers.

Emotion, color, counting-it has it all
Not only does it teach, colors and their emotions, it touches on counting to seven and MOST IMPORTANTLY shows that it only takes one person to make a stand. I love the simplicity of this book and can't wait to read it with my 7 month old. Minimalist pages and bright color will hold her interest and the underlying lesson. Brand new York is a smash hit. It's great to see people still talking about it.
