Book Overview

There's never been a better time to discover the novels behind the blockbuster Starz original series Outlander. Blending rich historical fiction with riveting adventure and a truly epic love story, here are the first four books of Diana Gabaldon's New York Times bestselling saga that introduced the world to the brilliant Claire Randall and valiant Highlander Jamie Fraser:

OUTLANDER
DRAGONFLY IN AMBER
VOYAGER
DRUMS OF AUTUMN

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach--an outlander--in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743. Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

   Keepers for my Collection!!!
There is a great set of books. It was a good deal and I am hooked. I have ordered the next 4 books and am waiting for them. I got hooked on the series because I was unaware of these. The books have to be better once you see how good the show is. Your only problem will be putting them down and trying to get on with your day, or cooking dinner, or even going to sleep. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be drawn in for certain, you'll be late, but I'll bargain for a few more pages. !

Stories are excellent, physical books are horrible.
Diana Gabaldon's writing is wonderful. It's so amazing. The books themselves are my biggest complaint. I need reading glasses because the letters are so small. The books are too big and make it hard to read. Half or a whole word will be cut off from the spine. Whoever thought this was a good print style for how long a book is, doesn't read often. Or something else.

Books arent as bad as previously reviewed
My books were found. After I sent my order in, I read a lot of terrible reviews. I was ready for the worst. However! My books are not damaged. I am not afraid to break a book back, even though the words are close to the binding.

   Great reading
The second sets were purchased as a gift. The recipients were very pleased. These books were very interesting. The four books were in a sleeve.

Love these books but the print was too small.
The print on these books was too small. I had to get them from the library with larger prints because I couldn't do anymore. There is a normal size print.

   Wonderful story and writing!
I love the show! You can almost feel that you're in the 18th century when you read Diana Gabaldon's work. Her storyline is great and her characters are great. She always manages to tie up the plot despite the many twists and turns. You will want to read all of the books that have been published in the series. I hope she will release books nine and ten soon.

Outlander Series: Well Written and the Movie’s Follow Closely
The books are better than ever. The movies are very close to the truth. I plan to keep my nose in these books until late fall. Such a gifted writer!

   Bravo
A well written story. The characters can be seen and felt. It is worth the time to become a part of this family. Wait for the rest of the series.

   Books vs TV series
The TV series is different from the books, so don't worry about that. I think the books give you a better idea of the love between Jamie and Claire. There are many ways to act out a love scene. There are things in the books that never make it to TV, but the books fill in and give more depth to all the characters.

   Outlander Books
I like the books each and every time. The set was a mass market paperback 4 book set. They are hard to read because the book is small. I will eventually buy the normal paperback. The first four stories are fantastic, but I don't want to read the rest of the stories in mass market format. It really does stink.
