Book Overview

From the bestselling author of The Bomber Mafia, learn what sets high achievers apart--from Bill Gates to the Beatles--in this seminal work from a singular talent (New York Times Book Review).

In this stunning book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of outliers--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different?

His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing. Along the way he explains the secrets of software billionaires, what it takes to be a great soccer player, why Asians are good at math, and what made the Beatles the greatest rock band.

Brilliant and entertaining, Outliers is a landmark work that will simultaneously delight and illuminate.

   How and why people succeed
I recommend this book to everyone. I buy copies of this book to hand out and share with others. The author's research on success and how it is different for everyone is written in short story format. Each story is about a different person, group of people or topic. For example, why are so many professional hockey players born around the same months and how many hours does it take to become a "master" at a job, subject, etc. It is extremely fascinating and an easy read. I believe it would be helpful for just about any age. I gave a copy to my 14 year old granddaughter and she found it interesting, too. These stories also make for great conversation. You don't have to be an avid reader to get something from this book and enjoy it at the same time. Grab a copy today, you will be happy you did.
