Celebrating 30 years of the beloved classic Owl Moon from renowned children's book author Jane Yolen and Caldecott Medal-winning illustrator John Schoenherr

Late one winter night a little girl and her father go owling. The trees stand still as statues and the world is silent as a dream. Whoo-whoo-whoo, the father calls to the mysterious nighttime bird.

But there is no answer.

Wordlessly the two companions walk along, for when you go owling you don't need words. You don't need anything but hope. Sometimes there isn't an owl, but sometimes there is.

Distinguished author Jane Yolen has created a gentle, poetic story that lovingly depicts the special companionship of a young child and her father as well as humankind's close relatiohship to the natural world. Wonderfully complemented by John Schoenherr's soft, exquisite watercolor illustrations, this is a verbal and visual treasure, perfect for reading alound and sharing at bedtime.

On Time Magazine's Top 100 Children's Books of All Time...
and rightfully so. This is a great book about a father and daughter who go "owling". Jane Yolen's narrative is superb. It is one of my granddaughter's favorite books. She is anxious for the winter so her father can take out one night and call owls.

"When you go owling, you have to be very quiet."
Owl Moon is a cherished book in our family. It is a beautiful book in our family. The story of a young child who is finally old enough to go owling with her pa on a cold, clear, moonlit night. As I read in very hushed tones, my young daughter would listen for her turn to call the Owls, Hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo. Each reading was like the first time as we wondered, will she hear an owl tonight? The illustrations are beautiful and make you feel like you are indeed walking at night through the quiet woods. I purchase this book for most new babies in my circle of friends.

he entices me by handing over this one and saying "Mama's favorite. "
Jane Yolen is a genius. This book is truly a work of art. When I am exhausted from reading to my two-year-old from reading all day long to my two-year-old, and can not bear the thought of reading another one, he lures me by saying Mama's favorite and handing over this one.

This is a classic story for a wide age group.
For more than 30 years I have been a speech-language pathologist. I work with children and have set out to have an ever growing collection of children's books. I collect books for all holidays, all seasons, specific themes or topics, and for toddlers, preschoolers and school age children. I was looking for books about winter or snow and ran across Owl Moon, which I had never heard before. I love this classical and don 't know why I hadn 't found it before this. I recommend it for older preschoolers and children right through school age.

   Gorgeous and captivating
This is a quiet book, a magical book, a cold book, a warm, loving, memory-spending, heart-aching book. It brought me back to my childhood while it ignited the imagination of my own children. We have read it three times in a row for three nights in a row. If you're a family that goes outdoors, you won 't be disappointed.

Reading it Over and Over Again!
Our 2 and half year old loves this book -- the first time we read it she had us reading it five times in a row. It is a beautiful, quiet and filled with nature book. We love finding all the hidden critters watching Pa and the little girl. The lyrics are like a poem and is great for calming the little one at night. The illustrations are great with gorgeous details. We love the illustration of the Owll -- we look and look just like Pa and the little girl in the silence. I love it, and so does our little one.

   This is a beautiful book
The language is simple, yet evocative enough for a child to understand. The pictures are incredible and heighten the whole experience. I feel like I can feel the cold and hear the stillness of the night. It is really wonderful.

   Lovely.
This is a beautiful book written by. I 'd say that my 6yo enjoyed it more than my 4yo. But it is a beautiful winter read. And the owls are a little bit magical.
