Book Overview

The real world doesn't operate on punishment. It operates on consequences. Teens must never be allowed to think that the consequences of their poor decision will be Mom and Dad will get angry. They should be thinking of the natural consequence of their actions. Whenever we lay something on a teenager that doesn't happen in the real world, it's a punishment and not a consequence. from Chapter 8, Ready, Set - Off into the Real World Parenting Teens with Love and Logic helps us stay connected to our children while we watch them grow strong and independent. It is a gift to all of us who want to enjoy the incredible process of watching our children become respectful, responsible, and resilient adults. --Bob Sornson, Ph.D., Author of Creating Classrooms Where Teachers Love to Teach and Students Love to Learn, coauthor of Meeting the Challenge and founder of the Early Learning Foundation Parenting Teens with Love and Logic empowers parents by providing them with the tools and skills to handle each mistake with respect and embrace it as a learning opportunity. This respectful attitude assists teenagers in becoming responsible adults while maintaining a positive healthy parent/teen relationship. --Gloria Sherman, M.A., LPC, Counselor Zemmer Jr. High, Lapeer, Michigan Parenting Teens with Love and Logic provides parents with a wide variety of the necessary skills to set behavioral limits, encourage decision-making, and teach their teenagers the essential social skills to function in the adult world. --Paul Gasser MS/LMFT, Marriage and Family Therapist-Mayo/Franciscan Health Instructor-University of Wisconsin-Platteville

start this as quickly as possible
I am glad that I started reading these books while my children are young, so that they are more receptive once they reach their teenage years. If you're just starting out and your children are teenagers, better late than never!

Good For Parents With Tweens & Teens
A friend who is a counselor recommended to me this book. Having teens is harder, but is just another age in life. How we use it is up to us. I hope this book helps me with the hard times and makes other times easier.

Bought this book to educate me on the principles of choice and accountability in dealing with teens and tweens. Though my children are grown up, they are still. This book was very helpful in teaching me to teach skills of positive grandparenting.

   Excellent
This is a great book for learning how to have a better relationship with your children and parenting with consequences instead of punishments. It gives them a real sense of control and teaches them to live with their choices.

The only thing I found difficult about this is that you need to have a support system with other parents or friends. But if you start with them young, it is the easiest because their older but young children like mine have been very good, but you have to know people who are willing to help. And then you have to stick with your guns. My daughter is princess spoiled and lives like a princess so she knows what to do to push my buttons. It takes more time with elder children and it helps them to grow up more. I am slowly bringing it to work.

   Love and logic teens
This is an excellent book for teens, giving advice on raising them. I've felt like I was reading about my own situation in the examples given. I wish I had read the books Love and Logic when my child was small.

Absolutely the BEST parenting book available today
Definitely the BEST parenting book available today! It goes far beyond acquiring healthy parenting skills... and truly helps in gaining incredible relationships with ALL people, including children, family members, co-workers, and even yourself. I have recommended reading it several times because you will gain more insight and hone your relationship skills each time. I actually bought several books for my staff to read to gain insights on working with at-risk youth. And they said it too, that it was the BEST book they had ever read on relationships, so much so that most purchased their own copy of this book. This book makes parenting MORE FUN, helps eliminate parent-child manipulation, and teaches healthy responsibility at every age. If I am right, EVERY adult should read this... the whole world would benefit from it.

   Bringing Peace to Our House
A while back I read the original. But now my kiddos are teens and I found myself fighting to find a way of teaching discipline that felt good and kept me out of parent pits. You know, arguing with fourteen year olds over inanities. Feeling responsible '' and anxious for their mistakes. Being offended by nothing more than a thier hormonal outburst. Remembering to let them solve their own problem. This book is tremendously helpful in :

   Super outdated
If you have a good kid at home and were just looking for some advice on the way, this is not the book for you. There is a lot of drug, alcohol and police involvement with the children in this book. I closed the book and rolled my eyes for the last time when I came to the chapter that said they do not agree with the use of punishments. At all, it was beautiful. Then I asked the ridiculous logic behind this reasoning. Mentions of Steppenwolf and cruising the main road, no social media or internet mentions with your kids at all. For today's children, therefore, not too helpful. Just not for me.
