Book Overview

New York Times bestselling author and artist James Dean brings Pete the Cat fans some fun in the sun

Pete the Cat is one groovy cat at finding shells and building sand castles at the beach. But when it gets too hot, there's only one way to cool off--jump into the ocean Except Pete might be a scaredy-cat when it comes to the water.

Pete the Cat: Pete at the Beach is a My First I Can Read book, which means it's perfect for shared reading with a child.

   Pete is the best!!!!!
Easy to read but fun and exciting. My little one is learning to read from Pete! Just the right story length and laughable! Illustration is awesome and keeps him interested! We love pete on the surfboard and there is always a positive message!

   Everyone Loves Pete
Pete the Cat books are a hit with my kids. There aren't many words on the page and the stories are clear and concise. Pete the Cat books are great for kids that are just learning to read. My kids still enjoy the Pete the Cat books because they teach about sharing and trying your hardest even if you don't win, even if it seems kind of cliché to me. The illustrations are very cute and make the book very engaging for people who can't read.

   Big hit with young readers
A hit with young readers. Pete is the right blend of fun with a gentle dose of life lesson and is one of the few Pete books that I buy multiple copies of to give to children in our Reading to Dogs program.

   A Family Favorite
My daughter likes all the Pete the Cat books, but I think this is the one she likes the most. I don't know how many times we've read it in the last few months.

   Great story, terrible quality materials
The story is good, but the quality of the book is terrible. Having worked at a library for over a decade, I know what a paperback feels like. The cover would have been better if I had printed it on card stock. The quality is what it is and it came bent. If my book living son hadn't seen it, I wouldn't buy it again in this format.

   Book fell apart almost instantly
This is one of the reviews I'm seeing recently. What is the cause of the poor quality? My 2 year old grandson loves reading. I'm the one handling it, not the toddler, because the pages popped apart on the first day after we read a few times. Terrible quality. I return the pages or tape them. I should not return on principle.

Binding ripped/fell apart after 2 readings. . Story great, quality is awful. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.
Each page is taped to the other. We read it again. The binding is poor. The book is worthless even though the price was reasonable. Don't buy. It's not much to say.

   Groovy
We love Pete the Cat and have read this book many times. I bought more Pete the Cat books, thinking we could stop duplicating, but we just added those to our reading time.

fun and perfect for the beginning reader
My kids love Pete the Cat and the set of books for beginning readers is great. The vocabulary is at the perfect level for the beginning reader. We have almost all of the books, as well as some of the more non beginner books. Highly recommended!
