In an evocative and fast-paced adventure on the high seas and on a faraway island an orphan boy named Peter and his mysterious new friend, Molly, overcome bands of pirates and thieves in their quest to keep a fantastical secret safe and save the world from evil. Bestselling authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have turned back the clock and revealed a wonderful story that precedes J. M. Barriea (TM)s beloved Peter Pan. Peter and the Starcatchers is brimming with richly developed characters from the scary but somehow familiar Black Stache and the ferocious Mister Grin to the sweet but sophisticated Molly and the fearless Peter. Riveting adventure takes listeners on a journey from a harsh orphanage in old England to a treacherous sea in a decrepit old tub. Aboard the Never Land is a trunk that holds a magical substance with the power to change the fate of the world - just a sprinkle and wounds heal and just a dusting and people can fly.
Towering seas and a violent storm are the backdrop for battles at sea. Bone-crushing waves eventually land our characters on Mollusk Island - where the action really heats up.

Double Pleased as Punch.
Derived From Web , Feb 9, 2022
This is the first in a series. I couldn't believe it was so good. I'm a grandma, and I couldn't put it down. Adults will love this. The second one was for my grand- daughter's birthday gift. I got the audio CD's for both to accompany them with the narrator as Jim Dale. He is a great narrator. Audio along with a physical book is a good idea as the child can listen to the audio and read the book at the same time. They are taught to read faster and have a better brain.

Bullying and misogynistic
Derived From Web , Nov 29, 2021
I will not allow my daughters or son to read this series. The lessons being taught are very bad. Tubby Ted, the fat kid, is always hungry and crabby. The funniest attempts at humor I' ve ever seen in a book. If the girl characters have great leadership qualities, then they' re labeled headstrong. They' re either ignored or ignored. This is a series for people who are interested in misogynistic behavior. I expected more from David Barry.

A reboot/reimagining that delivers for kids and adults!
Derived From Web , Apr 3, 2021
Peter and the Starcatchers is a wonderful book. It is deserving of its own adaptation of the Peter Pan mythos. The authors did a great job reinviting the world and characters of Peter Pan while also introducing new ones to help create its own world. The world is full of life and wonders. The writing is reminiscent of an old age that is no longer used in this day and age, one that immediately throws you into the world. One of the best stories I' ve read in a while. For your collection approval rating, I give Peter and the Starcatchers a 45 and a worth buying.

In preparation for sixth grade, I tutor an 11 year old who I read this with. We both loved it! He begged me to get the next one after I told him that there were 3 more in the series. We have read it. He begged me to read more after I stopped.

A charming, delightful page-turner
Derived From Web , Jan 15, 2019
I thought I'd get around to reading the first book after I saw the award winning Broadway show. It's a very clever origin story, told through the perspective of several central characters. There are some twists and turns, but mostly there is a lot of heart. You come to love the character that has the least amount of quirks. It is an easy read. Sometimes it feels good to sit down and read something that flows quickly. The story keeps going and you want more. I just bought the second book.

Action, humor, and a well-developed storyline
Derived From Web , Oct 29, 2018
I decided to get this book to read to my kids because I am a fan of Dave Barry's humor column. It took me less than a month to read it to them. When the kids weren't available to listen, I wanted to read. The first chapter contains action, humor, and a well- developed storyline. The next one will be purchased by me.

Jim Dale - The PERFECT narrator for Peter & the Starcatchers
Derived From Web , Oct 11, 2018
If you have listened to Jim Dale, this book is a must have for you. The book is geared towards children. By the time I was 28, I still liked this book. This is a great story about Peter Pan. I don't want to give away any of the plot, but I do know that it has a cast of characters that you will care about. Jim Dale, you are the best, thank you for such a great read.

Answered a Burning Question
Derived From Web , Oct 15, 2017
I' ve been a huge fan of Peter Pan for a long time, and this series answered one question for me that had yet to be answered. How does a baby who left his home on the day he was born live in a place where he is not supposed to age but still be young? This book gave a new take on how Peter Pan came to be, as well as answering the question of how he came to be. Since I am using the movie in my ELL class to talk about the idea of wanting to remain a child, I thought it would be fun to go on a Peter Pan kick. I will be able to use parts of this book in the lesson, but more than anything, this book was enjoyable.
