Ok if only to use as a book to read and not as a dictionary
This dictionary did not have any words my son wanted to look at. It was very beautiful and worked fine as a book to read. If it is simply used to bring your child up to the concept, it is ok.
Excellent as Vocabulary Source for Adult English Learners
I am a volunteer English teacher as a second language tutor. The pictures immediately ring a bell when you are trying to explain opposite, neighborhood and other words to someone with very limited English vocabulary. I provide students with a notebook that becomes their dictionary when they copy new words into it. In some cases, a sentence containing the word is included in the listing in order to show its usage. It is particularly effective in teaching verbs, because there are pictures that illustrate the meanings. The only shortcomings are that there is no pronunciation guide showing the sounds made by the individual letters, as is found at the beginning of most adult dictionaries. No pronunciation guide for any of the words is available. There is only one spelling of the word, its meaning and a picture. Imagine someone trying to figure out how ENOUGH is pronounced i-nuf. My students like the book and in some cases I buy one for them.
   The Best!
The best purchase ever made for our autistic son is by far the best. We have the software that uses the same illustrations and a short verbal explanation. The software adds funny sounds and movement to the illustrations. Our son, with severely limited language, uses the software and book every day. Really? It took him 10 years, but he has learned nearly every word. You need to build a DK app similar to the software.
   For our kids
When they started to read... a little advanced for their age at the time, but worth it, my daughter used quite a bit once she figured out how to use it. My son, the soon to be Star Wars Lego fanatic, used it only very rarely. Take a guess why... Good buy, lots of nice illustrations liked by the children.
   My First Dictionary
This is a wonderful book for children. I bought this book for my own 2 daughters when they were little and must have given it away over the years, so when I saw it, I had to buy it for my 2 yr old grandson. The pictures are beautiful, the book is a wonderful guide to help young children learn to read.
   VERY NICE, but
It is large with beautiful pictures. The only thing I regret is not realizing before I purchased it is that it is paperback. Kids tend to be rough on their things when they are a kindergartener, and I thought the price reflected a hardcover book.
   Recommend for all little kids.
Purchased for my 2 year old granddaughter, so that she would leave my dictionary alone! One, like it when my children were little, used to learn and read words, letters and colors.
The perfect book for my 2-year-old
Initially, we received this book as a gift. At this point she was quickly increasing her vocabulary and we would tell her the words for the pictures she pointed at. We later asked her to point out specific things. She also notices lots of interesting details in the pictures to talk about. We have recently bought a replacement because our first copy had literally worn out hundreds of hours of use!
   Good Dicionary
I like it, it has real pictures in it, not drawings and my daughter's teacher says that it is just what they need in the class.
   An excellent first dictionary!
The first dictionary is perfect : I wish the more complex edition had this kind of illustration.
