From E.B. White Read Aloud honor artist Matthew Forsythe comes a picture book about a magical drum, an emerald forest, and the little frog who dares to make her own music.

The biggest mistake Pokko's parents ever made was giving her the drum. When Pokko takes the drum deep into the forest it is so quiet, so very quiet that Pokko decides to play. And before she knows it she is joined by a band of animals --first the raccoon, then the rabbit, then the wolf--and soon the entire forest is following her. Will Pokko hear her father's voice when he calls her home?

Pokko and the Drum is a story about art, persistence, and a family of frogs living in a mushroom.

   I recommend this to everyone!
I love this story absolutely ''. The artistry is the artistry. After I got it from the library, it became immediately a must have book and I also got one for my best friend.

A beautiful book that is just plain fun
I am so glad that the Amazon algorithm has brought this attention to my attention. I admit that I bought it mainly on the cover alone, but the first few pages sealed the deal. The illustrations are new, with warm and glowing details to catch on every reading. I have little patience with children's books that have imposed morals and didactic takeaways. While there is plenty to learn from this nearly-subversive story of a little frog who marches to the beat of her own drum, it is not spelled out for the child. We like to read it with Camila playing Bolero in the background.

   Tacitly Racist
There is a black wolf that eats a rabbit. It would have been white enough, except that when the wolf repents, he was suddenly portrayed as innocent. What is it? A black wolf can not mean and be sorry. It is really unfortunate because it was otherwise a cute book. When are book makers going to stop perpetuating this false equivalence between black and bad?!?!?!?

   We love this book
This book is hilarious and whimsical and unexpectedly clever. At one point, me and the children were surprised when one of the members of the friend group suddenly eats another member of the group, but - well - that is nature? D. Beautiful story, great illustrations.

   Adorable and sweet!
The art found in this book is amazing. If you're looking for beautiful forest animals, you've come to the right place.

   Boring
It is bland and blah. My little one actually said at the end, That's it? '' It missed something great opportunities for self reflection by the main character. She is sent by her parents who don 't want to hear her drum anymore outdoors. Animals begin to join her when they hear her drumming. It ends just.
