Book Overview

The second book in Marie Lu's New York Times bestselling LEGEND trilogy--perfect for fans of THE HUNGER GAMES and DIVERGENT

June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request--June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It's their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she's haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood--what if the Patriots are wrong?

In this highly-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestseller Legend, Lu delivers a breathtaking thriller with high stakes and cinematic action.

This book and the Legend Series are suitable for mature readers as well as teens/young adults.
Mary Lu's second book in the series, "The Legend of Mary," maintains the depth of character that she had in the first. Although the book is in the teen-young adult category, I enjoyed the book very much and I am well beyond the young-adult stage of life, he said. The complexity, pacing, and quick turns in her plot kept me glued to my Kindle. Some reviewers have given a synopsis of the plot and characters. I highly recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy seeing young people mature in a dystopian world.

Random comment for a good book
Please WAIT. The Beatles' "White Album" had more meaning, the singer said. Another great book, another great plot. Now granted, the plot is used in a lot of different stories, but the reason why they do that is because it makes the story awesome. One of my favorite parts is when I have finished the book. PG-13 rating for violence, mild language and gay content. The book is available for purchase on Amazon. com.

   Exciting Read 2
I couldn't wait to read this book. It happens. I got sucked in and read the rest of the book. I immediately picked up Legend when I finished and haven't been disappointed, he said. There were a few spots where my interest was falling, but it picked up again. Great read, said Dr. Goin. Yes, I approve.

   Breathtaking
I've read all the books except for this one. EasyJet claimed it made plane and flight less complicated with just a few clicks of the mouse. This book has such great and deep detail of daily struggles between Day and June, it's hard to put into words. It also questions many of the deeper issues that emerged in the first book. I saw in the setting similarities between the U.S. civil war and the U.S. revolutionary war that followed. The west seems to be the center of gravity while the east seems to be the north. The patriots revolted against the establishment of a government. I still am shocked at the ending. I can't believe he's dead and won't tell June, Taylor said. Leaving me feeling empty and wanting more, it made me want more. I think that's the point. I can't wait for the finale, Melissa. If you're a fan of the "Divergent" or "Hunger Games" series, you may want to read this. Definitely worth the time.

   Solid and engaging book 2
Before we get into the plot of the second book, we must warn readers that spoilers are likely in this review. At the end of book 1, June and Day flee The Republic - in particular Los Angeles - in the aftermath of his brother's execution. After that they'll head east to Las Vegas, hoping to link up with the Revolutionaries, the Patriots. Once there, they join the Patriots and plot to assassinate the new emperor. There is no question the Patriots are the team to beat in the Super Bowl. The Patriots are counting on him to keep them in the game. It's a question of can she summon the courage to defy the Vatican's order that she be loyal. There are multiple twists and turns in the plot. All of the recurring characters are developed in more depth, with a couple of new engaging characters emerge, it added. As for the world, the political systems from the first book turn out to be a bit different than expected. This is a great book, said Frey. I would love to hear from you, Mr. Snow said.

   Good read
The story is a good one, Crowe said. I am 67 years old and enjoyed reading the books, but it is a bit of a challenge for me to keep up with the technology. I would highly recommend it to the early teens.
