I recommend this book as an Arduino starting point
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
If you are new to programming, I recommend a step back and spend a few weeks on C programming. The majority of exercises in this book require only a cheap digital uno, drills and arudino uno. Note : This book focuses on code and will not teach electrical components in detail.

I use this book at the college level at the community. My students have had success from zero to writing sketches and following with topics in the Arduino reference as well as the many Arduino example programs. Together with the Arduino specifics, there are some glimpses into more general microcontroller concepts. There are now very good tutorials for augmenting basic material with more advanced concepts. This book is fine for high school students and motivated students as well as for pre-high school students.

A little thin
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
I know it is a beginner's book, but this book skims rather thinnish. Simon Monk's next book, Programming Arduino Next Steps, is much better and more detailed on its themes. Perhaps this was done to make the platform less intimidating or any number of other editorial reasons, but I've felt that this book is a little more coloring started '' and a little less color by number ''. For its price, however, and for its focus on simply moving the user on connecting wires and uploading drawings, it can certainly get someone moving.

I would recommend this product.

I received this book as part of a robotics kit I put together for my teen boys. The other is building an RC car and has used the book for references. I think it is a good investment, especially when it is first started with Arduino boards and to build up theoretical knowledge. The book has good illustrations that compliments its text well.

Great book, great reference/resource.
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
This is a great book for anyone with new coding skills or for anyone new to Arduino. After writing my way through it, I have repeatedly gone back to it for help with my sketches. Chapter 4 on functions is the most helpful of the chapters, but also the most theoretical for me. This book has really helped me to write neat, encapsulated and easily debugged sketches. The chapters don 't just repeat the basic sketches found in other resources, though you will still have to write your hello world - blinky sketch here. I think it is a right of passage. This book is an easy read overall, but is full of useful, practical information.

Excellent intro to Arduino and C programming
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
I purchased this book in both paperback and Kindle form. I have written a few books on this subject. This is the best by far. The introduction to C programming is well written. For C++ there is even a good introduction. This book is not bulky, which is a plus for me, yet it covers everything you need to know and then some. This was the low book I bought for this topic because of its first price. Most books written for computer subjects are too large and overloaded with information that you will never need. I find myself coming back to this book frequently because what I want to know is easy to find and well explained.

The book to start with!
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
For the rank novice, excellent book. As I advance, I find myself re-reading earlier chapters and the concepts become clearer. Monk states that you should not get hung up on the code first by reading and trying the example sketches and eventually you catch, and he is right about that. I bought his book before buying an Arduino and I am glad that he explained the differences in the choices available and so I made an informed choice when I bought a Mega Mega.

A Bit Light Weight
Derived From Web , May 23, 2022
To be fair, I have been programming in C for some time now, so that I did not really need programming help. But it would have been nice if he had at least added an APPENDIX with a list of the library functions of Arduino and possibly a list of the pins that you could use and for what. It might be all there, but is buried in discussions about how C - syntax works. Or it is not there, one could argue that this is a great book for a beginner and maybe that is true. I'll grant that it is well written and the examples seem clear enough, but it is just 150 pages or so and arduino-specific information is all muddled with information about how to program.
