Book Overview
This Description may be from another edition of this product.
Nathan Hale tackles a topic fans have been asking about for years: World War I.
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, officially bringing the United States into World War I. A new generation of pilots were recruited to fly bombing missions for the United States, and from that group, volunteers were requested for a dangerous secret assignment. For the first time in American history, Army bombers would be launched from an aircraft carrier. Once at sea, they were told their mission was a retaliation strike against targets in Tokyo. But on the day of the raid, a Japanese patrol boat spotted them and they had to launch early, with barely enough fuel to get them past their target. After the bombing, some pilots crashed, some were captured, and many ended up in mainland China and were carried to safety by Chinese villagers, being hunted by Japanese forces all the while. With tales of high-flying action and bravery, Raid of No Return is a story of heartbreak and survival during wartime.Frequently Asked Questions About Raid Of No Return: A World War Ii Tale Of The Doolittle Raid

We've bought four more. They love them and remember the stories, and we talk about them afterward. Very good history books for children, Tunick said.

Historically accurate & good story flow
Derived From Web , Jun 23, 2020
My 9 year old is obsessed with Nathan Hale's books. He also loves history and comic books, so combining the two worlds was a no-brainer. The accuracy of the stories is based on historical fact. My mother is a reading specialist and I am a librarian, and we both plan on using these resources in our respective areas of reading education.

Awesome book from an amazing series!!
Derived From Web , Feb 1, 2019
My 12 year old son absolutely adores the Nathan Hale books. If you have a reluctant reader who begrudgingly picks up books, you must check out this series! It has even been necessary to confiscate them when he has chosen to read 'just a little bit more' when he is supposed to be asleep. In my opinion, that is demonstrative of a pretty awesome book! With all of the devices and technology at their fingertips, it's great when they would rather opt for a book.

Language Surprise

Good read, but was surprised to find that the book was aimed at elementary school children. If the language had been cleaned up I'd give it five stars, Mr. Dhaliwal said.

Good for avid and reluctant readers
Derived From Web , Jul 11, 2018
My 8yo son has read all the NHHT books multiples times. He has one with him wherever he goes. They can have some shocking themes that may be shocking for some, but those opened good discussions for our family, Raymond said. Underground Abductor exposes some atrocities of slavery I wasn't aware of. Our kid asked all the time, and we talked them out, too, he said. If you have a kid who loves learning and has a good time having discussions about hard stuff, then I highly recommend these books. We have a couple of friends who don't love reading for pleasure, and they also LOVED these books.

Book Review
Derived From Web , Apr 8, 2018
It's just that it's the item that was seen and got it. Also can say can have the potential for some animated series more likely along the Netflix, Amazon or Hulu areas since we're no longer in the days of Saturday Morning Cartoons, said Dr. Ari Fleischer.
