Ready, Set, Grow

Young girls before the onset of puberty have a curiosity about their soon-to-be changing bodies that needs addressing in a simpler way than for their older sisters. In Madaras's proven, trust-worthy, friendly voice and style, this entirely new book now brings them the same kind of thoughtful, down-to-earth information--but at a reading and comprehension level that's just right for them.

Responding throughout to real life questions and observations from younger girls, Madaras explores the changes that are happening, or about to happen, to them, including: the development of breasts, body hair, and body fat; the changes in their reproductive organs, both inside and out;their first period and all the complex feelings surrounding it; the unwelcome appearance of acne and new body odors; and, perhaps most important, how to respect and celebrate their unique bodies, even when the outside world is not always so accepting.

Lively cartoon drawings throughout make the book not only helpful, but fun to read, too.

... my son a few years ago and it was great. But this was a little more than I ...
The boy version was great for my son. This was more than I wanted for my child. Maybe it shouldn't have, but the suggestion to get a mirror and get familiar with yourself just bothered me. I was not looking for much information about sexy feelings. The information is useful.

   Great Book
Body changes are explained in a positive way in the book. My little girl is 10 years old and she likes the cartoons. It is a good book for any girl about to start puberty. It can be read all at once. It is easy to read and includes Q and A's. I recommend that the parent read it first so that they can be prepared.

   Helped communicate
I was looking for a book that would help me talk with my oldest daughter about her body changing. This tool was very useful. We were able to communicate easily after we read it together at night.

   Perfect for a 9 y/o
I didn't know this search would be so difficult. I didn't want to talk about sex or gender but about body changes. I am very pleased with the book so far. It gave my daughter a good understanding of what was going on. Breast changes, bras, menstrual cycle, emotional changes and hair changes are only some of the things that change. We avoided it because of the masturbation page, but it is there now. We had a discussion about what we needed. The book accomplished what I was looking for.

   Health book
It's a great book to explain. The body is going to do something. It would do that if you wanted your boys to know it. When I got this, my grand daughter was 10 and I was lucky that she knew about the subject when she got to 11.

   Reading Together
My daughter loved reading this. I feel like she gained a lot of knowledge from this book, we had a good time asking and answering questions.

Answers questions a lot of young girls have
A lot of important topics and issues are covered in this book. I would probably approach some topics in a different way and some pages seemed too much for my 10- year old, she didn't want to open the book again for a while. Maybe it's because my daughter is not ready for this much information and every child develops at their own pace. We will try again next year.

   Started for facts of life
I gave this to my niece because I bought it for her. We can talk about it or explain it to her if she feels ready. It was a great start for the facts of life. Thank you.
