I really appreciated the readability of this book, especially since it goes into a bit of global theory and history that is necessary to understand how the ideas of social health arose. It is most helpful to read this book as a companion to the online course of Harvard called Global Health A Biosocial Perspective. Among the co-authors of this book are some of the most prominent academic names in social medicine and medical anthropology, so that you know that you are reading something high-quality in terms of academic rigor. Be prepared to have some of your assumptions read separately -- pick with an open mind. Especially if you are like me in social sciences and have not delved too much into biological theory. I was surprised by many things when reading this book, and am beginning to take less for granted as I begin a career in medicine...

Comprehensive and understandable.

There is an excellent balance between caution and optimism pitfalls, and potential errors are highlighted, but not so much that a person who is interested in Global Health would be dissuaded from pursuing it. The commentary on the role of faith in Global Health is respectful and restrained by various views. I found that this book was useful to me and my colleagues. It did not have a completely American outlook, though it was accessible to Americans.

Derived From Web , Mar 22, 2021
I enjoyed reading this book because it provided me with thought-provoking concepts of global health, ranging from mental health care delivery to the topic of rural health. The authors provided a comprehensive and well-written perspective on the positioning of many pressing health issues. I would highly recommend this book to public health professionals and young global health officials.

Access to basic healthcare is a global human right
Derived From Web , Jul 8, 2018
A principal argument for health care care is a good right of all humans. Doesn 't ignore the pitiful access we have in the U.S. The argument is for those who argue that universal medical care will lead to rationing. I agree. We will ration based on the need. However, we see ALREADY rationing healthcare in this country. It is based on the ability to pay, rather than medical necessity.
