Book Overview

Planning for retirement isn't just about money.

Retirement has changed dramatically since our parents' generation. People are living far longer, with far better health than ever before-both mentally and physically.

Instead of slowing down, people are leaving their jobs feeling ready to take on the world. They're financially independent, active, and capable.

And then, suddenly, they have nothing to do.

Business friends drift away, the sense of purpose that comes with solving problems day in and day out fades into memory, and you start looking ahead to the next thirty or forty years wondering what on earth you're going to do with all that time.

Retiring? takes a profound look at twenty-first-century retirement, helping you plan all the nonfinancial aspects of what comes next.

Drawing on the experience of today's modern, vibrant retirees, Retiring? offers a concise, practical, and conversational guide to the best chapter of your life.

   Good retirement book
You think about what you're going to do when you retire. He also referred to several other excellent books by Raymond, including John A. Sullivan's "The Seven Deadly Sins."
There are so many more to retirement than financial planning, he said. This book is thought provoking on other things we should all be considering when we think about retirement.
   Very Affirming and Reinforcing
I've discovered several new ideas to explore in the years ahead. Thankfully, this is not another how-to book, but rather a useful and extremely readable guide to fulfilling a phase of life's journey.
Lot's of good things to think about
This tool can help with the overall plan, too, said James Zilkhai, UAL bankruptcy attorney. Easy to read and love the worksheets. He also said: "No excuses for not making your retirement plan." Yes, I will definitely refer to it many times over the next several years as things unfold. It really got me thinking about retiring many aspects of that I wouldn't have otherwise, Mr. O'Neill said. It's great to have such a great product on the market, said Jennette Smith, director at Amazon. com.
   Not just for retiring.
If you are reading this book, you are probably at a cross-roads in life. That could be someone planning their retirement but I think it also provides a context for someone starting their life after college, for example, and being confronted for the first time with all of life's choices, he said. Now he is looking seriously at where he wants to live his remaining life. He has built a successful, self-sustaining company and is anxious about where he goes from here. Sometimes life's vast choices can confuse or intimidate. This book is a good framework for anyone who wants to plan their best course of action to continue their lives with happiness, Raymond said.
Engaging Insightful Exploration of all the Non Financial Dimensions of Retiring
I'm delighted that Graham has chosen to explore all those issues -- including pensions, 401(k)s, and the impact of technology on retirees -- that so often are neglected in favor of a focus on finances. Whether you are an experienced corporate lawyer or just plain old retired, you will find some insights into the way that you think about your work and the act of leaving it. Young readers will find the book useful reading material for understanding what parents and grandparents are going through. Even retirees will be surprised at challenges they may never have considered and, more importantly, ways of thinking that will help them construct personal solutions, he said.
This is what a real retirement planner should look like!
It's an obsession that's reinforced by the $90 trillion worldwide wealth management industry. Money isn't everything, and our most important planning should be to ensure we don't outlast our enthusiasm for life, they say. Their planner has all sorts of charts showing how they got here, and how they plan to spend the rest of their lives.
A must read if transitioning in your professional life...
Best book I've read in years. Whether you are a professional transition or a first-time buyer, this book is for you. I wish I had had some similar guidance when I decided to leave the workforce and raise my children. Looking forward to using it to guide my future retirement plans and, in the meantime, am giving copies to all my friendsfamily members who are in their 50s-60s for Christmas this year.
