Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Patrick Petrella is now installed behind a new desk, as Superintendent of an East London dockland area. Though this marks a well merited step up the career ladder, the paperwork of modern policing makes Petrella itch to be out on the streets again.

There is also the nasty taste left by the manner of his predecessor's departure. Petrella detects patterns of rival gangs at work and uncovers a paedo-porn ring which stretches across the North Sea to Amsterdam's sleazier side. Soon he finds himself up against one of the most unscrupulous outfits in London and he is in no doubt about which course of action to take.

Michael Francis Gilbert ( 1912- 2006) is recognized as one of the most versatile British mystery writers. He was a lawyer in London for many years and at one point had Raymond Chandler as his client. He wrote almost every sort of mystery and thriller. He wrote police procedurals, spy novels and short stories, courtroom dramas, classical mysteries, crime novels, and almost every possible combination of these, all with the same competence and dry, detached wit. Gilbert was a founding member of the British Crime Writers Association, Named Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America and was named Number 24 on The Telegraph's 50 crime writers to read before you die.

   Wonderful Children's Book ...
This is a children's book that is well written and illustrated. I bought it to read to my grandchildren and now they are reading it to me! Over and over, we absolutely love seeing the pictures. We talk about each person in the line and then decide who of our family is who in the book. The children each fall asleep with smiles on their faces. I do everything in my power to keep this book safe so that my Darlings can read this book to their grandchildren as well. We Love This Book Just ''.

   Does its job very well!
In recommended picture books for ages 3-7, I firmly believe that the primary goal of a book should be to instill a love for reading through enjoyment through reading. In my opinon, Marla Frazee met this goal in Roller Coaster or exceeded. What a fantastic book! The text is easy but effective and excellent after the pictures. But its illustrations that bear the story - absolutely some of the best drawn people I have seen since Robert McCloskey's. To see the faces on these individuals as they stand in line, ride the coaster and then get off is pure fun. Like the first girl at the end of the book who runs and gets off in line to ride again, I found myself going back to the little page as soon as I finished the last. This is a book to treasure over and over again with a child or with your inner child.

Great for teaching writing about small moments!
I am a first teacher and this story is excellent for teaching children to write about a small moment in life instead of something larger and overwhelming. Simple story, but my kids were very excited!

   roller coasters-general
It gave me a deeper lifelong relationship with Rosser Coasters since I was 12 years old. As I mentioned before, I am 40 years old. I continue to run roller coasters until my homecoming by the Lord.

   A sweet read, lovely illustrations...
My son, who is now 5, has had this book for 2 years - it is a favorite in our house... he loves roller coasters and amusement parks in particular, which led me to buy this book for him. It is a 5-minute book with great images of people of all different ages taking a roller coaster ride--a sweet book for any little adventure seeker.

Engaging story about getting over nervousness
It is a different story about cute people and how they feel about riding a roller coaster. And the urge to feel scared again!
