In Jeremiah 12:5 God says to the prophet, If you're worn out in this footrace with men, what makes you think you can race against horses? We all long to live life at its best--to fuse freedom and spontaneity with purpose and meaning. Why then do we often find our lives so humdrum, so unadventuresome, so routine? Or else so frantic, so full of activity, but still devoid of fulfillment? How do we learn to risk, to trust, to pursue wholeness and excellence--to run with the horses instead of shuffling along with the crowd? In a series of profound reflections on the life of Jeremiah the prophet, Eugene Peterson explores the heart of what it means to be fully and genuinely human. In his signature pastoral style, he invites readers to grasp the biblical truth that each person's story of faith is completely original. Peterson's writing is filled with humor and self-reflection, insight and wisdom, helping to set a course for others in the quest for life at its best. This special commemorative edition includes a new preface taken from Eric Peterson's homily at his father's memorial service, as well as a six-session Bible study guide for individuals or groups.

I am 13 on the way through this book. A normal, careful read takes me usually a month or two. This can take 4-5 months to complete this one. Leap over a wall matches, or exceeds it, on pace. Amazing stand-alone sentences that can hold you for 20-30 minutes. Its layers of thought remind me of C.S. very readable. In the revelation of concepts, Lewis is much easier to understand on the first reading. Amazing insights -- the fact that this book was written long ago, but speaks to our culture and is a testament to Peterson's understanding of Scripture and culture.

   Looking for Answers?
If you want to make a sense of life out of life, this book will help clarify things. The author uses Jeremiah's life as a model for living an integrated, God-dependent life in the midst of difficult and confusing circumstances. Though it was very relevant to our present-day society, it penned over thirty years ago. In his youtube interview with Eugene Peterson, Bono was cited by Eugene Peterson.

My mother loves this book because it is difficult to find books about Jeremiah. I received it in a new condition and made it a beautiful gift.

The quest for Life at it's Best
Until I read this exposition of his life, I had not appreciated the book of Jeremiah truly until I read this exposition of his life.

   Thought-provoking
While I don't always agree with the author's interpretation of the Scriptures, I am always blessed by his insights and his ability to provoke me into a conversation with the Lord. This particular book was also a good exhortation for those who tend to grow weary as we see the world around us degenerating. His chronology of Jeremiah's life was a great reminder that living against our principles and choosing to live in right relationship with God is truly the only way to live at all.

Amazing. By That I Am Amazed.
I found that it was a little overwhelming ''. This book, Run with the Horses, has presented the opportunity to learn invaluable knowledge of Jeremiah's unwaivering faith to me. The historical aspects and people of this time, as well as the people woven into the text, provide clarity. The main takeaway is the most important to me. I know that this may sound ridiculous to some, but I have learned to pray after 57 years. I don 't believe that there is anything greater.
