Book Overview

Before Fran oise Sagan the literary icon there was Fran oise Quoirez, an eighteen-year-old Parisian girl, who wrote a novel.

This intimate narrative charts the months in 1954 leading up to the publication of the legendary Bonjour Tristesse. We encounter Fran oise, her family and friends close-up, in a post-war world that is changing radically; and Mlle Quoirez, in her new guise of Fran oise Sagan, will be at the heart of that social change.

Anne Berest was writing her third novel when Sagan's son, Denis Westhoff, asked her to write a book to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the publication of Bonjour Tristesse.

INSUFFERABLE This has to be one of the worst books I have read in my life
This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. The author uses Francoise Sagan as a pretext to talk about her own process of writing, which is very boring. I would imagine that Francosie's place, or let us imagine ourselves in that place. The tone is self- critical. Berest should be ashamed of herself for pretending to write a biography of Sagan and then forcing herself on the reader with her meaningless life and bland pretentious comments. I usually give away the books I don't like, but I will throw this one in the garbage since it would make me sad to have someone else suffer through it.

   Sagan 1954

The lecture de ce livre was compliquent. A pas la fluidité de Sagan in 1954.

Une année passionnante racontée par Anne Berest qui finit par se confondre avec Sagan!
There is passionnante confusion between the biographe and the sujet- Sagan. It is called Plein de cré ativité. Un livre qui donne envie de lire.
