Book Overview

This Description may be from another edition of this product.

Barron's SAT Vocabulary Flash Cards is a test prep tool that presents 500 SAT high-frequency words, selected because they have appeared as key words in recent SAT reading passages and critical reading questions. Cards are alphabetically arranged in the box, with an extra place-marker card that students can use to gauge their word-learning progress. This vocabulary building flash card set enables SAT test takers to review words they might already know, as well as to master unfamiliar words they are likely to encounter both on the SAT and in their college courses. The front of each card lists the target word along with a guide to its pronunciation and its part of speech. The card's reverse side presents the word's definition, uses it in a sentence, and lists synonyms. Students who master all 500 words will find enclosed instructions for making their own flash cards and continuing to expand their vocabularies. Flash cards in this set each have a small punch-hole in the one corner. It accommodates an enclosed metal ring that students can use to arrange select cards for study on the go.

Very Good Set of SAT cards.
Thus, this is a very good set of cards to improve the vocabulary. The cards come with a ring so that you can add cards to the ring or use the ring to carry the current set that you are working on. Only drawback, but not major, I would have a thicker card deck or laminate them, but the cost would be more expensive. We do 10 a week, that is just over a year. But I will probably do 40 in a month and then spend a week on the ones that need more study time. I also think that writing a paper using the words will help them keep them in the memory bank. And I also store them in Evernote, so that I can pull them up at random and go over them easily. Mind you, this is for my son, he's 14 now. Yes, it is early, but how does one build a vocabulary?

   GREAT PRODUCT FOR SAT STUDYING
Very useful for studying for the SAT. First of all, the cards are neatly numbered and they are even packed so that you can put them back in order. Secondly, the explanations are easy to understand and make sense. Third, sometimes they review together some Vocab words in a sample sentence, then you could join two words or even more at a time! Just liked the way they created it, with the pronunciation, synonyms, sample sentence, definition and part of speech. It was really great to see them produce such a nice product for use!

   Help build vocabulary
Useful in helping to build up vocabulary. Our goal is to start early and make it fun rather than a chore. Aiming is to take one card per day. The meaning is read by : Make up sentences : The card read fully. Great idea... now put it into action on a regular basis.

Well designed, perfect for vocabulary training
I did a word or two that I found unknowing. Couch questioning is great for a variety of people. This is most needed for teens who are not book readers.

   Cards are too thin
It is convenient, I like the sample sentences and it's punched hole to keep on a ring. The cards are, however, way too thin. Feels even thinner than regular paper. It will not hold on a ring that is flipped back and forth by my middle schooler. I think I 'll laminate these...

   Was disappointed a bit
The cards are very beautiful and in particular they have a hole in the corner with a ring to hold them together. The problem is that they are really small for my purpose. I often use flash cards as I am on the elliptical and these are difficult to use for this. I was also disappointed that I was only a fraction of the words I was not familiar with. I am sure that they are great for someone who is studying for the test, but not for my purposes.

   Great for introducing new words!
I teach middle school and I use these cards to introduce new words when we have a few minutes at the end of the class. The words are definitely SAT level, and I am happy to know that students are improving their vocabulary.

   Excellent starter pack!
I started reading these with my middle school son, a card for breakfast and dinner, since he is a very weak reader. The cards are concise and give examples of context, then we talk about the nuances that distinguish the various synonyms. The words are challenging, but make for a lively discussion.

It was very helpful to me. This came in handy on the vocabulary section, but was able to remember the definitions because of this purchase.
