Book Overview

Help your middle-schooler prepare for higher math. For this transitional stage in learning, Math Basics 6 builds a bridge, with features designed to summarize or define key concepts, to provide useful strategies and shortcuts, and to suggest ways to identify and avoid potential pitfalls. This 64-page workbook reviews earlier math skills, as it also helps advance into areas such as geometry and operational order. Lessons provide practice with a purpose, including word problems that address real-life applications of the concepts. Many activities offer hints and reminders, challenging problems, and interesting facts linked to the skills in the lessons. We used Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, published by the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), as a guide in writing this book.

these books are easy to understand
I have all of the School Zone math workbooks from kindergarten through sixth grade, including the Fractions and Math Puzzles. For any child who needs brushing up on math, or just extra help understanding a concept that was taught too quickly in a classroom, these easy-to-understand books are for you. As a homeschooling mom of a very visual learner, the color pages and fun examples make math less of a chore, and the workbooks can stand alone without a worksheet to accompany a lesson from a textbook or other. While grading the work, I have also found that the answer key is predominantly correct. However, I have only found a few instances where the answer key is wrong, and it was only one or an entire row of answers was missing. Obviously, at this level, I am able to determine the correct answer, Mr. Caramore said.

   grate help with home schooling.
My daughter was having problems getting her children to read, now they want to read with friends and alone, she said.

   Awesome book!
I'm delighted the book was so well received, said Dr. Richard A. Barbey, director of the University of Michigan's Center for Professional Development. That really scared the crap out of me, because I got it for my fifth grader. There are concepts that he can review and concepts that he hasn't learned yet, which I like because he can work independently if I choose the right practice sheet for him. 0 2622010 2622070 There are also concepts that he can work with me, sometimes sitting together, even though he hasn't picked up a practice sheet yet.

   Not enough topics
This book didn't have as many topics as I thought it would and most of the things my niece is learning in sixth grade isn't in the book.

   Excellent buy
The price is right, it has an answer key in back, many subjects are covered and each subject has a quick example on how to complete problems, Mr. Cowger said. Buy tons of workbooks, it's great.

Does not focus long enough on one type of problem
This book is all over the place, said Frey. There are only a handful of pages dedicated to each problem solving technique. It's not a teaching workbook, but more for practice if you already know the things in it. Not all homeschoolers are created equal.

Nice workbook, especially with pages in sleeve to use with dry erase pen
Her daughter has dyscalculia, but she is able to do most of the work herself. I ripped most pages out to put them into clear sleeves to use dry erase pen to prolong life of workbook. Recommend.
