From #1 bestselling authors Preston & Child comes a thrilling novel following archaeologist Nora Kelly and FBI Agent Corrie Swanson as they work together to solve a twisted crime that reaches far beyond any of their worst fears.
Following the acclaimed debut of Old Bones, this second happily anticipated new thriller in Preston & Child's series features Nora Kelly, archaeologist at the Santa Fe Archeological Institute, and rookie FBI Agent Corrie Swanson, as they team up to solve a mystery that quickly escalates into nightmare (Booklist).

A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face.

Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th century Spanish gold cross of immense value.

When they at last identify the body -- and the bizarre cause of death -- Corrie and Nora open a door into a terrifying, secret world of ancient treasure and modern obsession: a world centered on arguably the most defining, frightening, and transformative moment in American history.

   Fun and entertaining!
It's always a busy time at the depot, so we bring the goods! A fun, witty, and entertaining romp through time with interesting characters to keep you turning pages. But are they always surprised by plot twists? As much as I love reading their novels, I also hate to finish them.

   Scorpians Tail review
This was an excellent read. Twists & turns throughout. Very suspenseful with a climactic ending.

   Interesting Plot
It was ruined when Pendergast comes in and solves it at the last chapter.. can he stay in his own books?

   The reader lives the story.
I felt I was in the story, digging in the sand, carefully removing artifacts, meeting suspects who could be innocent and actually be of aid, Bruno told The Age. But the show's creator and executive producer, Phil Lord, is determined to unravel the character's complicated relationships. It's just that the nuclear bomb and the missle development engineers and soldiers were involved, too.

   Great read!
The book is a great read, said Frey. I enjoy a mix of history and fiction that keeps me reading until the end of the story. Adventure and treasure await! Including some of the best-known characters from other stories.

   Wow..
I mean, they are the best writers I know. Their books are exceptional, head and shoulders above anyone else's anywhere. I hope they write another one, and I'll be back for more. Highly recommend, just an amazing book, said Dr. Goin. It's great to be back home, said Blair.

   Disappointing ending
The book's authors, Robert Hein and Janet Pendergast, drag him into the story. A little of that character goes along way, he said. Newcomer Tobey Maguire is seen in the second series of the CBS film.

   Nora & Corrie Don't Dissappoint
5 stars for book two in the series. I love the teamwork and future potential of these two women, he said. The story of Roxana's quest for the "black widow" remains a mystery until the very end. Great job by the boys, said Sir Richard.

   Nora and Corrie
Like its predecessor, this is an excellent read by the dynamic duo of Lincoln and Child. We're not going to give any of the story away just know your money will be well spent on this book.

That this is not the kind of research archaeologists do and the gunfight was stupid.
I was entertained by the first 23 pages, then it fell apart, Raymond said. I like mysteries and thrillers that have a realistic flavor in the events, not so here, Sosa said. And when the sheriff has two guns and gets into a Hollywood gun fight in a town ghost town, well, that was the beginning. It's a parody, said Blair, who added that the Beatles were "not modern west." There were 60 jack-plus loads of gold and jewels at the time. Archaeology graduate and former intern at the Civil Rights Museum in Birmingham, Ala. basins and elsewhere in New Mexico, Texas, and across the Southwest. He also said he has heard of wild stories about jackrabbits from east Texas to New Mexico. It is a pure myth, but to weave in a thriller that has some promise caused me to fold the book, Preston should know better and should have consulted an experienced SW archaeologist. 0 3171201 It is a pure myth, but to weave in a thriller that has some promise caused me to fold the book, Preston should know better and should have consulted an experienced SW archaeologist.
