NEW YORK TIMES bestseller

An illustrated book on the refugee crisis that will break your heart in under 48 pages, from the #1 New York Times-bestselling author of The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and And the Mountains Echoed. A meaningful read to gift this holiday season.

Intensely moving. . .Powerfully evocative of the plight in which displaced populations find themselves.- Kirkus, STARED Review

Hosseini's story, aimed at readers of all ages, does not dwell on nightmarish fates; instead, its emotional power flows from the love of a father for his son.- Publishers Weekly, STARED BOX Review

A short, powerful, illustrated book written by beloved novelist Khaled Hosseini in response to the current refugee crisis, Sea Prayer is composed in the form of a letter, from a father to his son, on the eve of their journey. Watching over his sleeping son, the father reflects on the dangerous sea-crossing that lies before them. It is also a vivid portrait of their life in Homs, Syria, before the war, and of that city's swift transformation from a home into a deadly war zone.

Impelled to write this story by the haunting image of young Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian boy whose body washed upon the beach in Turkey in September 2015, Hosseini hopes to pay Read More chevron_right

   Beautiful and sad
A beautiful and haunting tribute to the people of Syria, who lost their home to war and tyranny was forced to become refugees, looking for a place to belong.
The entire book is a poem that can be read in 5 min or less... so disappointed!
I love Khaled Hosseini..., but this book is a poem or a prayer and can be read in under 5 minutes, even if you take time to stop for a look at the illustrations.
   Not what I expected
Didn 't know that it had pictures. He is one of my favorite authors. I absolutely love all his books, so I was excited to see this one! But its very thinnish and has pictures!
   Beautiful Sadness
The wonderful art makes this short story even more heart-wrenching. It gives a glimpse into the lives of the refugees.
   God help us.where are you.
Heartbreaking in the sense of what the world has become ruled by power and greed. Why have we, the human race, not learned the horrors of war, the death of innocents in the past?
   Extremely powerful message!
Since I did not bother to read the Amazon description or reviews before ordering it, I expected to sink my teeth into another enthralling Hosseini novel! First disappointed, then read the book and was very touched by it. The image of that poor little boy at the beach is one that will never leave me and should never leave anyone who has seen it. The fact that proceeds from the sale of this book will go to refugee organizations is particularly heart-warming. Before you stop the author for ripping you off, think about Alan Kurdi and examine your heart and soul.
A Tribute to Refugees in a Poem
I remember the photograph of the little boy's corpse in the sand. It was often shown on the news. Not only did I read the poem and savor the illustrations, but I also took it to the elementary school, where I volunteer to teach teachers to read to the students. It is very descriptive and touchable. It is quite beautiful in its simplicity.
This should not be sold in Kindle version
I had no idea that this was a picture book with few words. I could have purchased it for a few cents less in its hardcover version, but the shipping was not free unless I ordered more. It is a moving book, very sad, with beautiful illustrations which I could view after moving it from my old Kindle to my Paper-White Kindle Fire. But I would not have ordered, as I did if I had known more about the book.
   Beautiful but short
I read it and today I pre-ordered it. I was aware that it was only 38 pages, but I didn 't realize that it had less than one full page of text. Also, unable to run on my Kindle all the words were reading together.
Descriptive, honest, thought-provoking and sad. I hope it can inspire compassion in people worldwide, and especially in your own country.
