   not too bad...
When I bought this book, it was for children up to the age of 12. It was fine for the grade level. This is not a book for children. It's too simple.

Great Biography of Sir Walter Ralegh
This is an insightful biography of Sir Walter Ralegh's life, which consisted of pleasing Queen Elizabeth I, trying to gain power and money, and then ending his life trying to find the mythical golden city of El Dorado. The author used the introduction to inform the reader what El Dorado meant to them. The maps, prints, and timelines that he included give the reader a more broad and easy to read interpretation of his life. Ralegh own writing is included in the author's book. There is a lot of research in this biography. The author has a picture of Sir Walter, who is six feet tall. The biography of Sir Walter Ralegh is written to inform the reader of the history of the man, and give a glimpse into how the world worked in the day. The book should be read by children ages 11 and up.

an excellent introduction to the ugly but fascinating world of politics
The book reads like an adventure novel, but it's more than that. The politics of today are not so different from Elizabethan England's court intrigues. The author has studied Sir Walter Ralegh for a long time. Ralegh's strengths, weaknesses, and luck made him who he was and changed the world.

Good for a pretty table top book, not more
I was expecting a detailed biography of Sir Walter Ralegh in this book, but it is not. Major events are done with a small paragraph. Sir Francis Drake, one of the most important people in Sir Walter Ralegh's life, is barely mentioned in the book. The story of a person's life is not worth reading. The only quality part of this book is the paper it is printed on and it may be used for dé cor as a table top book.
