SMAL STEPS is a contemporary young adult novel from Louis Sachar, the New York Times bestselling author of the Newbery Award-winning smash hit phenomenon book and movie/DVD sensation Holes, and The Cardturner.

Two years after being released from Camp Green Lake, Armpit is home in Austin, Texas, trying to turn his life around. But it's hard when you have a record and everyone expects the worst from you. The only person who believes in Armpit is Ginny, his ten-year-old disabled neighbor. Together, they are learning to take small steps.

Armpit seems to be on the right path until X-Ray, a buddy from Camp Green Lake, comes up with a get-rich-quick scheme. X-Ray's plan leads to a chance encounter with teen pop sensation Kaira DeLeon, the Beyonc of her time, and suddenly Armpit's life spins out of control. Only one thing is certain: he'll never be the same again.

Combining his signature wit with a unique blend of adventure and deeply felt characters, Sachar explores issues of race, the nature of celebrity, the invisible connections that shape a person's life, and what it takes to stay the course. Doing the right thing is never a wrong choice--but always a small step in right direction.

Good for Teaching Reading and English
I've used it in one of my lower-intermediate classes. It has the added advantage of not having a movie or a lot written about it online. The language is pretty straightfoward without being dull, it's not terribly long or dense, and overall a good book for anybody teaching reading skills.

   My son loves this book!
However, I couldn't get my hands on Small Steps and ordered it. Giving it five stars, he said, was a good performance. He sits next to me on the couch reading a book. It's great to see people actually care about music, Bruno said. Just 13 years old, Max is already a star. I have not read this book myself but he tells me it is like the second part of Holes. I have no idea of the story line, the writer said. It's just that it's keeping a 13 year old boy away from the X-Box and I love it for that reason alone.

   it is a good book
It's a really good product, but it's overpriced. It's as much a Harry Potter book as a Gryffindor costume. Plz bring the price down.

   A definite reccomendation
I especially enjoyed how the story followed two different characters, without losing any quality on either side of the story. There were a few mistakes to which I would have liked to have corrected, but this only takes away some of the respect I have for the author, not the book. Also, I appreciated that all the characters had personalities that were strong and very present throughout the story. The team brought it to life. As for the plot, I enjoyed how it was done, yet well done. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a very entertaining story, but if you are planning on reading this story, I would suggest that you do not start reading with the expectations that this will start right where Holes left off, as the main character in this book is not Stanley Yelnats, but Armpit, who was a minor character in the first book. Overall, a great read, and something I could not put down.

The Literacy Bridge - Large Print - Small Steps
He has severe dyslexia and a severe reading disability. The impact of this book on his reading has spurred him to new accomplishments. I highly recommend both the format and the author.

   This book is AMAZING
Just totally hope their is a third about Zero, or something crazy like that. But it totally helps the plot line of the second book, "The Fall of the King's Revenge."

Some of the items were gifts, McCartney said. The products were delivered on time and all were happy with the outcome, Mr. Dhaliwal said.

I used this in one of my lower- intermediate classes. It has the advantage of not having a movie or a lot written about it online, and students really liked it. It was connected to some pop culture resources they enjoyed. A good book for anyone teaching reading skills is the language, it's not very long or dense and it's straightfoward.
