Awkward Rhymes, Negative Message about Junk
I had high hopes for this, but was disappointed. An awkward read, found the rhymes clunky. Also, as someone constantly frustrated by most people's simplistic view of junkgarbage, I was bothered to see the messaging here too : Sofia's Abuelo gets injured because of excess garbage from a landfill, and thus she wants to get rid of the trash and turn the space into a park. Uh, who is responsible for all trash in the first place? We are! We are! What happens when we manage waste properly? This happens! Beautiful disposal facilities completely disappearing, replaced by trash disposal facilities, replaced by great parks, but this horrifies me, and I hate for children to get this kind of message instead of learning not to over-consume because of its consequences.

   Not really "future prez"
I have mixed feelings about this book ''. On a hand, I love the new addition to the series. The rhymes are great, the illustrations are captivating and all together well done. My concern lies with the title : My concern is with the title. It says she is future prez and it's a stretch to go from child community organizer to future president. That is my only complaint. I don 't want other readers to get the impression that this is about a kid that will be president... instead, it is about a kid who organizes her community to create a park. It is a great story and in general a great addition to our library.

   Our kids give us hope
For the first time, I broke into tears while reading this to my daughter. I don 't think a book of any kind has ever done this to me. I adore the whole series and my daughter requests them regularly at bedtime. This one got me directly in the heart, seeing a scared little girl do exactly what she must in order to help her community. I could see my daughter in her, knowing that her generation already struggles with. Lockdown drills at the school. This past year, our neighborhood was locked by actual police threats twice. Litter is with us on our trails. Missed children are hit by distracted drivers. Both pollution and climate change are changing. This book offers a little bit of hope that our children will really act and make our world a little better.

Great reads for toddlers to preteens!
We love the books of Dave Roberts and Andrea Beaty! Poetic, poignant and diverse readings that keep my toddler's attention, but also great for older children!

   Sofi is spectacular!
This is truly a great book! I love the inclusion of elements of our Constitution and Democracy, as well as Sofia's problem solving skills! And for the record, “Sofia ” is not misspelled in Spanish as in English, and the Spanish spelling is “Sofia ” as the -ph ” does not make the f in Spanish.
