Depression Era story of struggle for family's

I was hooked once I started reading Sold On A Monday. I could not put the book down. You could feel the raw emotion of the reporter when he realized what he had set in motion! As soon as I finished reading it, I was on Second Sale web site to order more books like it.

Mid-Great Depression

A skilled presentation of a life changing event for two children, and the quest to put their lives back together again by the newspaper people fastened to them in America's early thirties. In the conversation provoking section, the topic of truth in journalism rose as a reflection on America's 21st media world. Nothing much was said by McMorris other than the topic. She could have talked about the demise of the local press, but she preferred happy endings. We need books from you. 5 stars

I enjoy historical fiction. It brings back memories from my grandparents and parents lives. McMorris did a great job researching the story. It's sad to see how hard the times were during the depression. Ellis andlily are so brave and take it on themselves to right a wrong, never realizing the impact it will have on many people. It shows how important reporters were to keep the public informed of the truth. Today's reporters should use their power of the word to bring truth, not sensational headlines. It was a good read. I recommend anyone who loves historical fiction to check out the archives of our country. The USA.

The Depression left many families unable to feed, clothe, or even shelter their children. Ellis Reed, a new reporter trying to make his mark, is driving out in the country when his car overheated. Two young boys are on the front porch of an old house with a sign. He is taking a picture. Ellis and many others are starting a journey. You have to read this book to understand the journey. McMorris has written a great story. This is the first book that I have read, but it won't be the last!

Great summer read

In the midst of challenging times, it is refreshing to read a book about a civil and respectful era. The book takes you away and makes you feel like you're in a different world. I haven't been able to escape for a while in these headline grabbing times in our country. When civility and respect for one another came more naturally because it was taught and demonstrated on a daily basis, I found it charming as well. The story makes you want to read it on the deck or porch with a cup of coffee in the morning or a cool drink in the afternoon.

I recommend this book to you. The consequences of a single action are explored. A picture and a story by a reporter who is just trying to fill his column and a picture that was never meant to be published are examples of this. Lisa Wingate wrote Before We Were Yours, a book about depression and what happened to some children. Another great read.

A Different Read

The book is set in the middle of the Depression. A reporter saw two little boys with a sign on their house for children for sale. The picture is ruined, and the reporter has only one copy of the article. The family is gone when he comes back to the house. A boy and a girl are the new members of a poor family that he took a picture of for a fee. The consequences of this switch makes for a great adventure that fills the rest of the book. I liked it.

An exciting and moving novel!

The story never lets you go until the last page, because the title grabs you. The story of several characters and how their decisions interact to produce unforeseen consequences in the lives of others is set in the Great Depression. Ms. McMorris is able to connect with the times and circumstances of the time. This is a page turner that made me want to read more from the author. Great read from start to finish.
