Excellent, but need female outlines
Derived From Web , Dec 8, 2021
Update : I have changed this to 4 stars because there are still a few models that use this outline model, and the exercises are only a little powerful. I lower rating was not reflective of the value provided. This has helpful exercises that are very relevant and having the pdf to download and print is excellent. However, all exercises with outlines use male model outlines. The women I work with have expressed that they do not appreciate this and that it makes it hard for them to relate to exercise.

AMAZED
Derived From Web , Mar 6, 2020
I had already used a lot of skills in this book and never realized what I was doing. I have always had this innate understanding that the body plays such an important role in the healing process. No wonder that after sexual trauma, people gain a ton of weight or why we feel so good after exercise, yoga, dance etc. I am so excited to use this material! You won 't regret it.

Wonderful integration of the somatic experience into clinical work
Derived From Web , Jun 27, 2019
As a dance movement therapist, my training focused heavily on integrating the physical, emotional and mental experiences to increase awareness and create change for my clients. I found this book to be a helpful refresher for similar interventions technologies I have already employed, but also inspired me to expand and be curious about how I can continue to bring the body and somatic experience in my work. I also enjoyed the way Mischke-Reeds breaks down how these interventions can be helpful in a language that can be passed to clients easily. I regularly work with clients who may be skeptical or scared to enter their bodies and this type of language can help create a foundation of openness and curiosity. May not be new information for those who already work with the body, but I still recommend this highly as a resource for any clinician.

I wish there was a link to a PDF when you purchase the book.
Derived From Web , Jun 14, 2019
As a therapist, a toolbox is only useful when I can use the tools with my clients. Unfortunately, I have become accustomed to receiving electronic copies of content in the form of a PDF that can easily be emailed and/or copied for clients. I have not found a PDF version of this book - I have the hard copy, which means I must physically make copies by laying the book flat on a copier. It is not really how I want to spend my time... I hope the publisher can also provide a PDF copy of the book to those who purchase it, so that we can actually put these wonderful exercises into practice with more ease. Thanks! '' If you can make this happen, I change my review to 5 stars. And if there is a PDF that I am not aware of, let me know. I have not yet been able to find it.

Good, But for Different Reasons
Derived From Web , Apr 12, 2019
Okay, this is NOT a book of self-help. It is not a book to help clients with a book. It is a guide for clinicians. When I bought it, I was not clear on that. Just wanted to put that out there in case you think the same thing. Somewhere I saw that this would revolutionize the way I practice it. I could not pass this up! I received it and read it and was incredibly valuable, but not for the reasons I anticipated. I thought it would give me new techniques to use in every session. What it did was help me realize how it feels to be on the receiving end of the therapy. The things in this book are things I naturally do because this is how I live. I had no idea what it was like not to live this way, so it has given me new compassion for those who are so disconnected from their bodies and their feelings. For this, great resource.

Not self-help
Derived From Web , Mar 1, 2019
I do not have a somatic psychotherapist. I thought that this would be helpful for me in giving me tools and practices to do the work on my own. It looks like a really awesome resource but is written and designed for professionals and over half the worksheets are either for the practitioner alone or dependent on the practitioner for direction.

This is a must-read!!!
Derived From Web , Sep 16, 2018
This book reminds us how much of our experience happens in the body and how unattended the body can be. It is a wonderfully clear, concise, and comprehensive guide to using somatic techniques in the therapy that can benefit a seasoned or a novice clinician alike. The author shares her tremendously rich experience by presenting very practical and concrete ways of how to guide our clients into their own bodies, make them aware of internal processes and how to make this experience safe and meaningful.
