Book Overview

Conferences abound in most industries, and being a speaker at them can be valuable for anyone's career advancement. This video is about how to market yourself if you want to speak at these events, rather than just sit in the audience. It contains a wealth of tips from two seasoned presenters, from understanding your audience, to finding unique ideas, creating an abstract, crafting a biography, choosing a title, understanding the three parts of a conference proposal, and organizing and structuring content.

Speaker Camp Workshop brings alive visual and dynamic examples reinforcing the coverage in the book. Viewers will be able to see what works in real presentations, how to handle practice sessions, manage different types of audiences, the mechanics of presenting material on a stage, and how to control questions and answers -- whether friendly or hostile. And it doesn't stop there: it goes on to make suggestions for evaluating and improving your presentation for the next time, incorporating what you've learned from feedback, whether live or through social media.

Loved this comprehensive look at public speaking
Loved this comprehensive look at public speaking... from coming up with an idea all the way through presenting and presenting again. Not only was the process for all that well-defined, but the book contained several realistic, practical tips for each part of the process. Whether you're a new public speaker or someone who has done it several times before, this book will help you tweak and refine your ideas and process. The authors think of everything you should consider, including physical surroundings, tools and technology, and what to eat or not eat the day you are present. I especially liked the section at the end about how to present an audience... often, people forgot about this part of the equation when handling. Book by Superb. I refer to it again and again when I plan my talks.

Practical advice you can use today
I gave Speaker Camp 5 stars because it can help you today as a speaker. This book is as informative as it is realistic. HARD is writing proposals to speak at events. For so many years, I criticized presenters on their abstract or presentation. I wish I had this book 5 years ago to shepard me through these years. Speaker Camp recognizes that there is not only one way to create a great proposal, but offers numerous methods for organizing your talk from meticulous spreadsheets to hen-scratch Post Its. I loved this book not only for its practical advice, but also for its welcoming tone.
