   Helps and improves reading comprehension
It is really helping my daughter to understand and ask more of the right questions about what a story is about. With this whole distance relearning thing and children losing FaceTime with their friends and teachers, we took it into our own hands to help her with this since her teacher doesn 't really care.

Exactly what my 2nd grader needed
The book gradually builds on reading comprehension with manageable size chapters. One page reading and one-page of QandA. Due to COVID and our extended stay are home, we introduced this series to our 7 yr old. And she went from liking these to kind of hating these and getting through a lesson in under 15 minutes. It has helped her reading and ability to think about what is the big picture. Overall, quite happy with these, but these might work best for the middle of the pack children, rather than the ones who are advanced readers.

   Not an independent reading activity
The 1 book needs to be completed in sequence. 2 questions seem to be beyond the target reading level. I bought this book because I absolutely love the Summer Bridge books, also published by Carson Dellosa. I hoped that this would be something similar to the reading passages found in these workbooks. My child is usally able to do these independently without much fuss. At the end of 1st grade my child was reading above the grade level, so I thought this would be a good addition to our summer curriculum. Instead, this requires a lot of help from me -- explaining questions and helping with inferring, which I believe goes beyond many 7-8 year olds'background knowledge. There is a good mix of content and non-fiction passages, but I thought we would be able to pick and choose stories based on what we were interested in. Instead, we discovered that several of the passages must be read in sequence, which added more difficulty to answering questions until I figured this out.

Requires writing skills to answer questions.
I am a teacher who homeschools my 9 year old son with autism during the Pandemic. This book requires writing skills to answer the questions. Most reading comprehension books for 2nd grade have a variety of activities in response to reading, such as multiple choice and fill in the blanks, so that you can assess the comprehension of reading independently of their ability to write. This book asks mostly questions that require sentence answers. If your child can not write sentences yet, they are not ready for this book unless you want to ask the questions verbally. I saved the book and keep it for the next year. I use the 1st Grade version of this book with my son right now. I have many other 2nd grade reading comprehension books that my son and I like better than this one.

Great Reading Comprehension Practice for ELLs or struggling readers
I love this book and am using it to help my second year students who are new to English or have learning disabilities. This is a good book for independent practice because the passages are short and have color illustrations, and the questions encourage a reader to look for evidence in the text. I definitely continue using this! ''

   Reading Workbook
This workbook is a great tool for children if you are continuing education while out of school or if you are a homeschool parent. Lessons are in bite - size sections that keep the kids engaged.

Very helpful for 2nd grade students
Very good for kids, a little bit difficult for average 2nd grade students. I like the subject of the materials and the preparation of each essay style text is carefully selected and organized.

Nice workbook, I like the reading passages but find the questions a bit too advanced for 2nd grader
So far we have completed only a few lessons. I like the reading passages, but feel that some of the question material can be a little above a new 2nd grader. Inferring things that are relatively abstract is challenging for children this age, and children should be challenged, but often the concepts are outside the realm of expectations for a 2nd grader.

   School supplement
I have a 3rd grader who struggles with reading comprehension. I bought this book for her to become a stronger reader. The worksheets are very similar to those used in classrooms and tests.

Awesome book to help improve reading comprehension, bonus it is also a writing/spelling tool too!
This book has many short stories for the child to answer and a section for the child to read questions to help them with their comprehension. There is also an answer section in the back so that we can ensure that we are getting the right concept as parents. I use this to help my child improve their reading comprehension, but it is also useful as a writing practice tool. In the years to come, I'll definitely get the following grades for this book! Also excellent to help prevent summer brain drain.
