Political correctness has taken politeness and turned it into a weapon of censorship and intimidation. How did so absurd a concept become so dangerous -- and come to dominate our public discourse?
For at least the past quarter century, political correctness has dominated American public discourse. In 1991, President George H.W. Bush blamed political correctness for conflict and even censorship that left free speech under assault in the United States. In 2016, Donald Trump focused much of his presidential campaign on fighting the same scourge, declaring, Political correctness is just absolutely killing us as a country. Americans are confronted daily with a laundry list of words you're not allowed to say-- a list that is updated constantly and without warning. Speechless traces the history and effects of political correctness from the early twentieth century to the present and examines what this concerted manipulation of language means for the future of American culture and politics.Speechless: Controlling Words, Controlling Minds is 256 pages long.
Genius! Love the Book!

A bit of a heavy read as far as language goes, for some. However, it is full of great points and we get to look at the linguistic changes that are ourselves and our society moving forward. This is a great collection of Beatles songs.

The book is very good. The Harrisons' book is a historical and relevant discussion of today's debate regarding politically correct speech. Savage's book is a must read for anyone interested in the world of culture and society today.

like wading through wet cement

It's just that it's about as readable as a book. The author is still rambling on about the history of PC culture and this theorist, he said. Instead of providing helpful suggestions for combatting censorship, Graham ridicules conservatives who fight for free speech principles as naive bumblers who play into the hands of leftist radicals. The book then devolves into name calling of various activists and movements, lumping them into categories such as "blacks" and "Asians" with the Hannah Nikole-Joneses of today. I found this book didactic and juvenile at the same time, Raymond said. There are occasional nuggets of wisdom and advice, sometimes two or three stars, that can be found in the book.

It's a close one, but I think I may have liked this book better than his first. Great explanation and insight on how our culture and politics have ended up the way they are today, and how we can save them, he said.
