In All New Square Food Gardening, 3rd Edition, the best-selling gardening book in North America is relaunched and updated for the next generation of gardeners and beyond.

Since Square Foot Gardening was first introduced in 1981, the revolutionary new way to garden developed by Mel Bartholomew has helped millions of home gardeners grow more fresh produce in less space and with less work. Now, based largely on the input and experience of these millions, the system has been even further refined and improved to fully meet today's changing resources, needs, and challenges.

With over 150 new photos and illustrations, this new edition makes it easier than ever to achieve nearly-foolproof results in virtually any situation: 100% of the produce; 20% of the water; 5% of the work.

Perfect for experienced Square-Foot-Gardeners or beginners, the original method created by Mel has not changed in any significant way with this new 3rd edition of All New Square Foot Gardening. It remains: build a box; fill it with Mel's Mix; add a grid. But along with the classic steps, you will find some interesting and compelling new information, such as:

   Easy & fun
A community garden was where I started vegetable gardening last year. I own a raised bed. This book is the bible for me. His website is helpful. I did not follow Mel's formula for the dirt. I used the dirt from the community garden. Mel told me to put the garden to rest. I didn't have a lot of compost but I think it made a difference in the tomatoes this year. Square foot gardening is the way to go. We have a short growing season that gives us a variety of vegetables. It's fun.

I had a paperback edition of this book and was ...
I ordered to share the hard cover editions of the book with my friends, because I had a paperback edition. This way of gardening makes sense. It can be adapted to strips around a house or a narrower spot, such as under a net tunnel created with 10' or more PVC pipe. I'm reading between the two covers because of the gardening sense in it. The TV series that promoted it in the 80s is long gone, so you'll be lucky to find one of these books.

   GREAT for EVERYONE
I moved to a place with some land and am a beginner gardener. This is the book I wish I had bought first. You can search the author. He is an expert. He doesn't assume the reader has a knowledge of gardening, but he also doesn't assume the reader is simpleton. It is straight, factual, and doesn't get tedious in the details that other books do. The Square Foot method is very good. I will not make the same mistakes as I did last year, because I feel like I have a good garden. This book will give anyone confidence that their garden and table will be full of the right food when they want it, and in the correct quantity. Strongly recommend.

   Square Foot Gardening
The first book I ever read was by Mel Bartholomew. Every year I practice the square foot gardening process with my lilies and flowers.

   The title says it all
Being a landscape designer and knowing my clients only have a small amount of space to plant a vegetable garden, this book makes them happy.

Square Foot-great concept for those limited on space
This is a great book for people with limited space. The author shows how many plants are needed for each type of garden. It's perfect for people who are limited on space. It's the only way to plant. Highly recommend.

   Good book, worth the investment
Everything is going according to plan, we used the information to start our garden. The use of space is more efficient than traditional row gardening.

   Interesting ideas
The newer version of this book has a lot of different concepts for gardening. I got some helpful ideas from both of them. I was excited about more compact gardening, but reality is setting in like when invisible bugs eat almost every leaf.

   Great Book!
During the 2020 COVID19, our seller had to close. Our gift book was delayed until May, 17, 2020. They still took the time to answer my emails even after they were closed. We bought this book 9 years ago. Have used it to learn about gardening. We have fresh vegetables in our house all summer. For the winter months, I need to freeze and can some things.
