Book Overview

The #1 New York Times bestseller and a USAToday bestseller
A timely, crucial, and empowering exploration of racism--and antiracism--in America

This is NOT a history book.
This is a book about the here and now.
A book to help us better understand why we are where we are.
A book about race.

The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning reveals the history of racist ideas in America, and inspires hope for an antiracist future. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.

Through a gripping, fast-paced, and energizing narrative written by beloved award-winner Jason Reynolds, this book shines a light on the many insidious forms of racist ideas--and on ways readers can identify and stamp out racist thoughts in their daily lives.

Zero stars would be more appropriate
The Marxist flavor of the new American anti-racist theory is inseparable from some of the negative aspects. It is limited in scope and is a very niche thing.

   Great read
Even though it's not a history book, it was a very interesting book that looked at America's history in a different way.

   For kids, and adults too!
The words and story of the book are easy to understand and follow. The back of the book contains references to almost every sentence. A must read.

Very thought-inspiring book. IMPORTANT NOTE - Paperback edition is Spanish ONLY
It is a very important read. The paperback edition is only available in Spanish language. The Spanish language translation of the paperback edition will be sent to you if you order it from the main webpage. I requested that Amazon fix the issue so that young adults and teachers don't have difficulty ordering the English edition.

A complete and readable history of racism.
The complete history of racism is provided in a very readable book. The author is an anti-racist but approaches the topic in a way that is flexible and fair.

   Highly recommend
The book is called "Read across Rhode Island". There are huge gaps regarding black history. Reynolds presents information in a way that mimics a conversation. Well written and highly recommend.

   Good for whole family
My two teens and husband are going to read this together. We all learned a lot from the conversations. Anyone interested in learning more about the history of racism should read this book.

   Racism disguised as wokeness
This book is terrible. The authors change a narrative to victimhood by taking out self-accountability in humans. It is incredibly sad that this is a required reading for my class and that their exposure of racism is just justifying their racism.

   Terrible Book
My daughters school required this reading. It doesn't reach kids that they are anti-racist. It is anti white. Would not recommend anyone to me.

   Fantastic Book!!
This is an excellent book. I learned a lot as an adult from reading it, but it is targeted to young adults. I hope school systems use it as an option for required reading. I thought it was opening. I didn't know a lot about pop culture and politicians.
