State Of The Union: A Thriller
Book Overview
This Description may be from another edition of this product.
From the national bestselling author of The Lions of Lucerne and Path of the Assassin comes another electrifying international thriller featuring all-American hero Scot Harvath, as he plunges into the frigid heart of the Russian tundra to save the fragile state of the union.
On a cold January morning, the United States awakes to discover that an old enemy, one long believed dead and buried, has crawled out of its grave to lay siege to the world's only superpower. With the stunning discovery that enhanced Soviet-made suitcase nukes have been secreted in America's major cities, President Jack Rutledge gathers his National Security Council to weigh the feasibility of a first strike against the Russian Federation. There's only one problem. For over two decades, the Russians have been funneling international aid money into a top secret air defense system, which has just been brought on-line and which will render any conventional attack upon their country utterly ineffective. After exhausting all of his other options, and with Soviet sleeper agents preparing to detonate their deadly payloads across the United States, the president turns to the nation's final hope, ex-Navy SEAL and Secret Service Agent Scot Harvath. I Enjoy Spy Thrillers!!
Derived From Web , Jun 1, 2022
After reading everything Brad Thor has written and all of Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp series, as well as most of David Baldacci, who kept me going with Camel Club, Maxwell and King, and now Will Robie, I can say that I love books that satisfy my lust for revenge on bad guys. Whether some things are improbable or not, I manage a suspension of disbelief if necessary and enjoy the ride! In truth, I am already reading the NEXT Scot Harvath novel in the series and will continue until I finish the currently published novels. Maybe I am simply pleased or maybe I am a vicarious adrenaline junkie!

Scary when you stop and read the notes at the end.

Again, a great story and plot with enough twists to make Mr. Snyder happy. I hope that someone in Hollywood makes a movie out of any of the books. A favor though : get a good screen writer to not mess up the story and cast it properly. Now you find yourself four to book.

Great Author (new to me)
Derived From Web , Jun 1, 2022
At any rate, I have spent a great deal of time finding and buying all his other books. Can 't go wrong with any of them. I now have a total of 13 hardcovers and have visited his website to make sure I have everything he published in hardcover and to put them in order of publication. On his site, I noticed that there is a challenge to his readers to read his books again. A goal of reading a book a month is set. Mr. Thor! Sorry! I had already planned to read them and I guarantee that I will read them faster than your challenge. I JUST CAN'T WAIT until you write another. If there is not a new one soon, I'll be forced to read my books by Lee Child.

Overall, good writer
Derived From Web , Jun 1, 2022
I have read about 5 of Thor's books and find the following is true of them all, at the beginning, but then pick up steam and keep you wanting to finish. I find the endings, however, also drop off poorly and do not have the kind of termination that makes you say wow! '' Or I did not see this coming! He seems to be sort of a tire of his story at the end and just wants to finish it. Also, since he does a lot of books in the same genre, he runs out of new plots and story lines. I think he needs to expand his ideas and look for fresh concepts, as one can only read so many stories of the same character, fighting bad guys and winning in the end. I think he does a great job with historical background, particularly the Middle East issues, and assuming that they are accurate, these points add to the overall story.

Starts like a rocket, ends up a dud
Derived From Web , Jan 7, 2021
A couple of good action scenes could not save the mess Thor created. You could almost feel the indecision over and over again of where the author wanted to go next in the story and it pays the price with a rushed, lazy and rather stupid ending. Another annoyance I find with Thor is his tendency to place more emphasis on weaponry and equipment description than on character development. The enemies were not as strong in this book as they were in his first 2 books.

Not a perfect hero
Derived From Web , Aug 1, 2019
It is amazing how much better Brad Thor's writing has gotten in just 3 books. This novel had a good story, which he kept moving. The relationships between the various characters were constantly changing. It is not exactly a Tom Clancy novel where all the good guys work together no matter what. Perhaps it's a little realistic ''. The author provided lots of details about guns and gear. In all, I look forward to reading the next book.

Brad Thor for President â€¼ï¸ ðŸ˜ƒ
Derived From Web , May 17, 2019
Brad Brad Thor is a bona fide bad ass! Agent Harvath has an excellent character development. ... and superb storytelling abilities! I really want his first Harvath novel to be hurry up and get on the silver screen! It would be an excellententertaining movie, whenever it finally gets green lit! I would give anything to be part of this undertaking and help it be produced into a film! ... and yes, I agree that Chris Pine would be perfect for the role of Scot Harvath, but Eastwood would be a really good downswing plan!
