A Writing Book for All Writers
I discovered this book in my local library and was so glad that I did. “Craft enables art ” This book brings the deepest understanding of how craft allows writers to elevate their writing beyond mechanics and execution. Yes, Le Guin addresses danglers and misplaced modifiers and view of view issues. But she also speaks to the sound and beauty of language and how good writing skills allow the writer to find joy in writing.

Highly recommended. Very inspiring. Could "break" someone's writer's block for sure!
Great book for beginners as well as experienced writers of all genres, and especially for those involved in writing critique groups and looking for exercises, tips and ways to use these groups effectively. Beautiful, detailed and specific passages for examples and interesting explanations for each chapter section. Ursula Le Guin is one of our treasures as a writer, activist, poet, mentor, and teacher. We are lucky that she chose to share her craft with us. For sure, could break someone's writer's block!

   Excellent book for writers
When my writing group selected that one, I tossed them the table of contents and first few chapters to get a feel for it. Initially, I was a little disappointed because the focus of the first few chapters was on grammar, syntax, etc. What '' : My first impression was mistaken, and we really learned a lot together. This book was a joy to read and work through, expertly written and full of great examples and exercises for single writers or critique groups. Highly recommended, you will learn both her take on the basics and her take on the more esoteric parts of writing.

   Excellent!
I always loved Ms. Le Guin's novels are fictional. I teach creative writing at a small university and was looking for a book to use as text. I wanted to write something for writers, not a textbook. I read all the books that people talk about, but this simple book was the best. It emphasizes that writers need to practice their craft and gives lots of exercises for writers to hone what she talks about. My students love it and I do too.

This slim book is laden with excellent advice and useful information. A master of her art is Le Guin. Reading this book is like sitting down with her for a cup of tea and having the goods delivered directly to your noggin. This is a book that will reside in a place of honor on my shelf. Buy it now! You won 't regret it.

Highly Recommend for Those serious about Creative Writing
This ranks among the most helpful craft books I have ever read. The advice of Le Guin is specific, practical and insightful. She addresses many of the questions that other craft books avoid or skirt, such as the role of plotting, word choice and overwriting.

   Good for very new writers
As a craft book for intermediate advanced writers, however, it is way too basic. It was not helpful.

Rules Are Meant To Be Broken
While there are a few more definitive books on writing, Le Guin's book resonates with me, especially at this time in my life. The writing conventions that have built the novel into a good form of art are important and purposeful, but it is okay to move away from these rules if you have a stable artistic reason for doing so. This book makes this point brilliantly clear, time and again.

   Insightful Gems for Creative Writers
This book does not try to do it all, it is not a comprehensive style guide. On the other hand, it is a collection of creative insights and suggestions to improve diverse expressions, whether fiction or non-fiction. Other than thinking, she dwells much too long on the point of view '', and appreciate her selection of topics and the depth with which she treats them.
